EdenPURE heaters. Do these things work?

Natural gas prices will skyrocket this winter. Our play area in the basement gets mighty cold, and even though I installed 2 extra heat vents, it takes forever (and costs a mint) to warm the area up.

Then today I see a full page ad in the newspaper for THIS
thing. The paper ad was more detailed than the link.

So? Are they full of shit or is this legit?

I’m sure it’s a good heater, but I’d be a little leery of it at that price, especially given this sort of thing:

Bullshit. Relative humidity is a function of temperature and absolute moisture content. If the amount of moisture in the air remains constant, the RH will decrease with increasing temperature. Unless this thing adds moisture to the air while it heats, it cannot do as it claims.

What Q.E.D. said. There are other quartz heaters out there, that aren’t surrounded by hype.
IIRC, a quartz heater costs a little less to run than a standard electric space heater of the same BTU rating.

One benefit to quartz heaters is that they produce lots of radiant heat, which can warm people without having to heat the intervening air. It’s like when you go outside on a bright sunny fall day in shirtsleeves although the air temperature is much lower than you would be comfortable at if it were night.

As has been stated, this is a feature of all quartz heaters, not just the ones in the OP. In terms of efficiency, it would be hard to find an electric heater that isn’t damn near 100% efficient. Everything you put into it will eventually turn to heat. That doesn’t mean it’s a cheap way to produce heat, just that every 4.19 joules of energy input is going to produce a calorie.
