After his abdication, Edward served as the governor of the Bahamas. Apparently, they wanted him as far away from the war as possible as he was a suspected collaborator with the Nazis.
While in the Bahamas, he got involved with a murder of Sir Harry Oakes (as governor, how could he not especially considering Sir Harry was a rich man). Some accounts say that he was involved in a cover up that involved framing another man for the murder.
Is this just myth or is there something to this story? There seems to be limited info on the net but there is a lengthy article here .
All in all, Edward looks like he was a slimy dude.
And just what is your question?
“Is this just myth or is there something to this story?” seems like a pretty fair question to me.
There’s two books on the subject: “Who Killed Sir Harry Oakes” and “Conspiracy of Crowns”. The latter was written by the man tried in the case, and he accuses the Duke of Windsor with helping frame him for the crime. The third reviewer gives a detailed account of the book.
