Edward HERRMANN Appreication Thread

THE LOST BOYS vampire dad

FDR in how many movies?

Patriarch in THE GILMORE GIRLS

and best of all, the only man to match Fred Gwynn in filling Herman Munster’s boots! HAR HAR HAR!!! (Almost erasing from my mind the abominable TV MUNSTERS rehash with John Schuck as Herman)

Edward Herrmann- we salute you!

raises glass

Not to mention a great portrayal of a surgeon who suffered a nervous breakdown in MAS*H (the tv series, not the movie)

Not to mention the fact that he’s into cool old cars. He was the host of a slightly updated version of The History Channel’s “Automobiles”.

And the philandering evil husband of Meg Ryan in Overboard.

Though I like his Gilmore Girls role best. It’s impossible to imagine anyone else in that role.

Nice guest shot on “The Practice.” Great as Lou Gerhig. And pretty good on “Oz” too.

Psst – that was Goldie Hawn.

He was also Y.M. Berg, the snooty architect who designed a house shaped like a 7 for Joe and Helen on Wings.

I adore Edward Herrmann. I fell in love with him during the original airing of the Eleanor and Franklin miniseries. I was lucky enough to see him playing FDR live in a production of Annie.

He’s also wonderful as William Randolph Hearst in The Cat’s Meow and in his numerous appearances on Law & Order. He was in the season finale of Crossing Jordan this year too.

Edward Herrmann was born to play FDR. There simply aren’t sufficient patricians in movies these days.
