The Wednesday thread reminded me of a Munster remake (?) with O’Connell as Herman. Did I dream it? I can’t find anything about it.
It was very meh despite the excellent cast.
It was a masterpiece compared to the recently released one.
I kind of enjoyed it. They were still monsters trying to live a normal, suburban life, but Herman wasn’t a doofus and Lily wasn’t a scold.
I’ve often wondered what the results would be if someone re-made some of the old high-concept TV shows of the '60s with modern style and sensibilities. They could even re-do My Mother the Car and the guy’s cover story would be that he was testing the latest self-driving technology for Tesla. It still wouldn’t be funny, but it might not be quite so stupid.
The main complaint I remember about it was that they seemed too aware they were different, which is more like the Addams Family. The Munsters always acted like they didn’t realize they were different.
Still, I liked it enough that I was disappointed there wasn’t more. I’m not sure I would have wanted much more, but a few more episodes would have been cool.
