Edward Woodward -The Equalizer Died

The guy who created The Equalizer wrote it specifically with Woodward in mind, he was a huge fan of Callan.

Great actor, and I just loved that name. I always parsed it as E-dwood-dwood-dwood

You said exactly what I was going to.

And Common As Muck

I loved The Equalizer when I was a teenager. I also greatly admired Woodward in the version of A Christmas Carol he did, making a boring and over-done work nicely engaging again.

My only fear about The Equalizer is I haven’t seen it since it went off the air. I’d like to do a rewatching, but I’m afraid it might be horribly dated and cheesy looking back, and I’d hate to sully my memories that way.

Very funny, of course.

I suggest everyone read Edgar Wright’s, the director of Hot Fuzz, lovely eulogy for Woodward.

“Shoot straight, you bastards! Don’t make a mess of it!”

Terrific. Woodward (and Lee) are both delightful on the Wicker Man commentary, and now I want to rent Hot Fuzz to listen to that one, too.

For me my first thought was The Wicker Man. RIP Edward.

The pilot to The Equalizer is on YouTube!.

I’d forgotten that the theme music was by Stewart Copeland.

Very sad, it was my favorite show during its entire run when it was on, I had wished he was my dad (was going through troubling daddy issues at the time).

To the previous poster up there ^^^ a few, The Equalizer holds up quite well considering, much better than its contemporaries like Miami Vice or Simon & Simon.

Shoot straight, you bastards! Don’t make a mess of it!

Also:

“All lives end in a dreadful execution, George. Ours will be more quicker and less painful than most.” The world weary delivery of that line.

I love that movie

Wickerman, Hot Fuzz and Equalizer were all good. The Greater Good

I saw this as a two-part episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, which is listed on his imdb page. I remember it being a powerful performance.

According to this page, the same story was originally made as a British drama named Hunted in 1973, also starring Woodward. This appears to be missing from imdb. Perhaps it was part of a television series.

He was also quite a good singer, with several albums to his credit. Youtube

FWIW, he’s the narrator on a History Channel documentary playing right now, about the Bridge on the River Kwai.
