I have a nifty little word search game on my phone called Crossibus. It’s nicely designed, and it crafted surprisingly complicated puzzles with esoteric word lists. Its only fault has been that it’s prone to crashing when I switch to another app.
Well, the other day, in the list of words to be found, it included the N-word. :eek:
My guess is that this game was probably crafted by a non-US, non-English speaking company, and they probably just imported a general US dictionary without screening it for offensive terms. Some scatological terms had popped up before, and it also seemed to have some rudimentary instruction in English plurals and conjugation, so I would get words like “shittings.”
Unfortunately, the app crashed during that game before I could take a picture. I went to look up whether anyone else had had this happen, and I learned that the game had been removed from the Android Market. I’m left wondering if that was due to the crashing problem or too many people finding racially offensive terms in their word lists.
