Ouch. I hope she was okay.
First thing is to figure out what kind of "bee"it is. If you are sure it is a honey bee then you should google the local beekeeper club. Someone may well be glad to receive a free colony. If you call an exterminator and it turns out to be honey bees they will probably refer you to the beekeepers anyway. If it is anything else, you want it killed, quick.
I could help you determine what kind of bee/insect it is, if you can come close enough to make a good picture.
I am a beekeeper, and while I have no experience with africanized bees, honey bees are usually docile and will not sting you unless you are stepping on them or threatening their hive (or if you are eating a banana, but that is another story). If there is a hive in your walls, don’t panic and just get some local beekeepers to come get them. With africanized bees, the story is the same, except they believe you being within 100 yards of their hive is threatening. Just kill these guys.
Wait a minute, girls poop?
Not so you’d notice.
My parents had a beehive/wasp hive in their crawlspace above their (rented) condo. The wasps would sneak out at night and come bite them as they tried to sleep. Mom starting reacting and getting swelling on her face, and trouble breathing.
My parents being meek and not wanting to trouble the landlord, thought, Well, the season will be over in a month or so; we can wait it out. I said, what, if you called 911 you’d say, “if it’s not too much trouble, my wife isn’t breathing. Come when it’s convenient for you.”? :smack: Finally they had someone in to remove the hive.
Don’t get me started on the raccoons they had in the attic of the next rental.
Ok people, let’s not confuse bees and wasps. They are VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY different both in appearance and behavior. Wasps will bite you for fun. Bees are very docile as L. G. Butts, Ph.D. said, and do not sting without provocation. Even with provocation, if you’re not right by their hive, they’re more likely to fly away. They DIE when they sting you, after all. It’s not evolutionarily advantageous to sting on a whim.
Yes, but is it a goatee made of bees?
Is there any other kind?
You know how everyone says wasp stings hurt more than bee stings?
Well, I’m here to tell you that the nice little bees HURT SO MUCH MORE!!!
Life’s so unfair. I’ve been stung by every stinging animal under the sun. And then some.
Bees, wasps, jellyfish, leeches… you name it, its attacked me.
My sister hasn’t even beens stung by a freaking mosquito. (Okay, she has but it feels like she hasn’t…)
Ironically, both wasp and bee stung me in the foot, after I’d stepped on them…
Wasps don’t bite.
Also, the OP actually made me laugh out loud with the “yellow jackets don’t live in Florida” line.
Heh, just for kicks, I looked this up: Schmidt sting pain index - Wikipedia
Not sure I agree with this ranking though - I’ve been stung by a white-faced (or bald-faced) hornet, and I thought it was much more painful than bee or yellowjacket. But then, I’m no expert.
I’ve certainly never been stung by a bullet ant or tarantula wasp.
Also - just eeek.
“I think I’ll become the tribal accountant, thanks”
It’s not really a question of fairness if you step on them. Unless you mean unfair for the insects just minding their own bzzzness when AAAAUGH A GIANT FOOT BLOCKING OUT THE SUN!!!
