I’ve never put anyone on my Ignore List yet. But a couple of years ago, when I was under fire from two or three other Dopers, someone apparently assumed that I had blocked the messages from a certain poster who was verbally attacking me. He reposted everything that she posted, in order to get around a possible Ignore List.
For a short time, he was reposting every unpleasant post that she made. I’m not certain if he added his own comments to the thread or not, but I don’t think that he did. It got pretty boring for me and I would think for anyone who had to read the same posts twice over and over again.
I’m curious about what Mods think of a situation like that. (I don’t think I reported it.) But would that be considered “jerkish” behavior?
Weird. Why didn’t you just put the person acting as relay on ignore, as well? Surely, anyone who would go through the trouble to do that maliciously also deserves iggy.
I would need to see an actual current example of this happening – as it reads, you’re presenting a hypothetical, which I, like most of the staff, prefer not to rule on. Depends on the forum, the nature of the posts (whether the person were adding his or her own comments is not an irrelevant detail), how many posts there were, etc.
I’m pretty sure you didn’t report it because if you had something would have been done about it.
Only a jerk would do something like that.
Please, if you see someone acting out, report it. We may not agree with your assessment of the situation but tell us what you see. We can’t do anything if we don’t know about it.
Poster “ABC” was calling you a big pooh or something and you didn’t react.
So poster “XYZ” assumed you had blocked “ABC” and reposted everything.
That assumption in itself is drawing a long bow.
And I think that the belief that the unpleasantness towards yourself is intended for your own reading is misplaced. If I was arguing with someone on the boards, comes a time when you know you aren’t going to convince them. So the posts are made for the benefit of other subscribers to the thread.
