Ejaculation question ( maybe TMI)

I am 64 years old and have noticed the last few years that ejaculation can sometimes be painful, more frequently now. Not a burning sensation but more like a knot at the bottom of my urethra. The pain is relieved by urinating but it is very difficult to urninate because for some reason a semi erection persists for several minutes until I can manage to start a flow. Since retiring this year I have increased my sexual frequency quite a bit and this seems to have aggravated the problem. Is this just part of getting older or something I might be able to fix?

Acetone maybe?

Seriously though, it’s probably just overuse.

Have you had your prostate checked?

I’m also 64 and don’t have any of those symptoms. So at the risk of spelling out the totally obvious, you NEED to see a doctor because none of that sounds normal.

Ask your doc. Lots of factors could come into play, including any meds that you’re on, the state of your prostate, other associated diagnoses, etc.

One would have to know more about that before writing it off as overuse (though that is a possible explanation, but one I’d offer up only after reviewing your health history and examining you.)

No meds besides an occassional aspirin and no real medical background. I have a slight suspicion that a few years back I had an overly ambitious cialis fueled weekend and seemed to have damaged my tool. That took several months to heal and it almost seems like this is when the problem started, not positive on this though. Could scar tissue in the uretra act this way?

Maybe it could. A chat with your doc remains your best bet. You’re of an age where Mr. Prostate can get to be a bit of a nuisance. Could represent a low-grade prostatitis, or BPH with an obstructive component, complicated by a urethral stricture, or “other”.

Specificic real-life medical questions are better in IMHO rather than General Questions. Moved.

How much would that cost?

Seriously. Some doctors will do a palpitation for a medicare co-pay. This might run $75 if the deductible has not been met. Then there is the BPH test. Cheapest is $25 at a health fair.

But many will charge the $ 75 and do nothing, literally do nothing, except a referral to a specialists which can cost hundreds.
SDMB needs a rule that seek professional advise should responses should require a budgeting estimate. I would say the first prostate check could run between $100 and $500.

Don’t they have dogs that can sniff you and find out if you have it or not now?

I have insurance and a couple of years ago had prostate checked. I had minor swelling and doctor advised palmetto. He didn’t seem to think it would make a lot of difference but said it might help. As long as I don’t have a piss hard on I seem to have a normal flow except after sex. I did an experiment this morning that seemed to help. I sat on the pot and read a awhile making sure the bladder was drained very well before messing around and I didn’t have any pain, so it is related to bladder not draining. I will forward that to the doctor when I go in for my check up. Getting older is a bitch, bladder not draining might be related to be slightly constipated. I will take notes over the next few weeks and see what kind of patterns if any I can develop.

Although “palpitation” is a word, I think you mean “palpation”. As for the rest, God bless the USA.
