Election Day Omnibus thread

Welcome Back.

Well, he has promised to deport millions of undocumented immigrants which will not only cause a humanitarian crisis but will also crash the economy. The only question is if the economy is damaged more by this or his promised tariffs and associated trade war, along with more tax cuts for the rich and his hijacking of the Federal Reserve.

Not to mention all of the unfettered corruption and self-dealing as Trump treats federal agencies and departments as both a personal cash register and means to punish his critics and enemies. Along with selling out America’s interests to various foreign donors and/or the autocrats he so admires.

So there’s that.

Hey.

What specifically do you think he got wrong?

If you have any evidence of that, you should totally send that to Trump, Giuliani, Lindell, Powell etc, because none of them have been able to produce a single shred of it.

Is that the reason you don’t want to be included in that discussion? Because you don’t have any evidence of it either?

He tried. January 6, 2021 ring a bell with you? False electors scheme, and when that plan got stymied his supporters overran the Capitol and tried to hang Mike Pence and stop the certification of the election? 140 police officers injured? Anything sound familiar?

But please tell us again how “Hey, I only attempted murder - I didn’t actually kill anyone!” is a valid defense.

He and the GOP literally have a plan for that, and have openly stated the desire to do so. Why do you think he won’t?

I mean, he did try to end democracy during his first term. I know it’d be more convenient if we all just forgot that, but it’s something that he did. He was even impeached over it.

But also, effectively his entire 1st term cabinet has disavowed him. They want nothing to do with him. And he wants nothing to do with them, because they stifled his worst tendencies.

Trump 47 is not going to be as ineffective as Trump 45 at doing fascism.

A campaign requires more than just the candidate saying stuff at rallies, though.

Where Trump’s campaign was clearly more effective was in his use of guys like Elon Musk and RFK Jr. to separately push different messages. Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” campaign was highly effective, as I expected it would be, and I honestly think had he not sold out to Trump, Harris might have won just on that change alone. I know he’s got brain worms and drove one spouse to suicide and is a grifting piece of shit - I’ve hated him since long before this election, sorry - but the idea he wasn’t going to make an impact on the election was clearly insane from the get go; he was VERY motivating to Trumpists, very effective in delivering that message, brought over voters and likely flipped some voters who were already into pseudomedical woo. Musk and his “I’m a free speech hero” bullshit worked too, and millions of people WORSHIP him, with the notable exception of one Canadian asshole on the SDMB who met Musk at a house party at Queen’s and thought he was a jerk even then. (Oddly, JD Vance was used more to massage Trumpists who were already in.)

Harris had no one quite like that. Walz was just kinda there - he absolutely, positive was Tim Kaine 2.0 - and she had some major endorsements to be sure but Taylor Swift wasn’t literally out campaigning for her the way Captain Brain Worms and Twitter Destroyer were.

And Pence had the courage to do his job. Vance would have had the integrity of an HOA president if he were in the Chair.

Isn’t it almost exactly the same stuff that Michelle Obama got lambasted for?
If so, it’s a good illustration of how the media environment and cultural perceptions of know-it-all elistism on the left, distort everything and make this far from a fair fight.

Moderating:

Let’s drop the postmortems in this thread. There are many other threads more appropriate for these discussions. The election itself is over now. Thanks.

Don’t know if this has come up already, but Nevada has now switched the Senate race to Dem. Late count absentee and early voter ballets have put Rosen ahead of Brown.

About the only positive thing I can think that happened today. But that was early, haven’t heard anything since…

Edit: Drunk Sophomoric humor to follow…Okay, Rosen and Brown. Gotta be a dirty joke somewhere in there…

Apologies for the late comment on this thread: i did feel disappointed that Harris lost. As others were, I surely was pulling for her throughout her candidacy. I have nothing new to add but would feel like a wasted if I didn’t share the loss.

Other than the inevitable bad policies Trump winning again means the people who supported him will be emboldened to be more rotten and ignorant (like before) and the people who didn’t support him will be more bitter, miserable and rotten in their own way. The American social fabric will be pushed deeper into the thresher. This will be a superlatively awful four years.

Colorado House District 8
Incumbent Caraveo (D) up by slightly over 2000 votes with 18000 more to count.

The current count of called races in the House is 212R-202D, with 218 needed for a majority. Still a small chance for a Democratic majority, and whichever side takes the majority is going to have a very narrow margin in the chamber.

Yep, even smaller than last term, when the GOP had issues getting anything effective done. Assuming the GOP gets a 4 person lead- that is the prediction- then radical stuff like Project 2025 aint going anywhere.

How much percentage of the vote is counted? My Google search shows “90% reporting” and says Caraveo is trailing by 2,000, but maybe mine is outdated. Is yours showing more than 90%?

It looks like it flipped overnight. 97% reporting

And it is official, Colorado CD8 has flipped to the Republican Gabe Evans by 2600 votes.
