Election Day

It’s election day. Don’t forget to go to the polls and perform your civic duty.

Vote for the Republican of your choice, but vote!

I did indeed vote Republican today… in the three offices where they ran unopposed anyway.

I just got back from voting – I had to wait in line for 2 hours. Not really worth it, considering the choices

Interesting…

You should’ve seen the ballot in Chicago (at least in my district). Unopposed democrats all over the place. I had to turn back to the front page and see George Bush’s name on the ballot just to be certain there actually was a Republican listed somwhere on that thing.

I hate unopposed candidates even if I like the candidate. I just prefer actually having a choice to having none.

I love election day.

Kinda off subject but seriously Bill C. tell me pleaset why Monica? Are you sure you didn’t inhale some good long, long lasting good stuff?

Monica was a little hottie if you ask me. You go Bill.

For all the piddling little local elected posts, I voted for whoever wasn’t the incumbent. Just to spice things up a little.

Jeez! Where the hell are you? I walked in, signed my name, and voted. Bing, bang, boom.

If there are places with 2-hour-waits, I would expect to see a rather low voter turnout there!

It’s all those darn undecided voters standing in the polls still trying to figure it out!

Yeah, I had to wait over an hour myself:[ul][li]Line to sign in[/li][li]Get in line for ballot.[/li][li]After long wait to get to front, I am informed I need to go to another line to show a picture ID first. (There were no signs informing us of this, and many voters made the same mistake.)[/li][li]Line to show ID.[/li][li]Line to exchange sign-in sheet for ballot. (Here, I waited for an ancient lady to find and check my name in a bound list of registered voters. Must have taken her a full 3 minutes. Multiply that by the number of voters in line.)[/li][li]Wait in line with my ballot for an available voting booth.[/li][li]Wait in line to put ballot in ballot box.[/ul][/li]
Total time elapsed: 1 hour 15 minutes. Price of democracy, I suppose.

On the plus side, turnout was heavier than I have ever seen it in my district. Good to see the participation.

Around 10:00 this morning, I walked down the block to my polling place. One person was finishing up as I entered, but the place was otherwise empty save the two workers at the table.

I gave them my name, and the worker asked me for my address (they’re not allowed to make you show ID in California). They then placed the Big Book in front of me, into which I had to place my signature and address next to my name.

I was given a ballot and pointed to a voting booth. Had my Official Sample Ballot with me, pre-marked, so there was no thinking involved. I just punched the corresponding holes with the cute puncher, inserted my ballot in the envelope-like thing, returned to the table and gave it to the other worker. He tore off the top part of the ballot, put the rest in the ballot box, and gave me an “I Voted” sticker. Out I walked.

Total time elapsed: maybe 5 minutes.

Thank the Lord for absentee ballots!!!

I guess that’s from the Yogi Berra school of political Coverage?

A judge could just keep the polls open late, like in MO!
See sig.

Metro Atlanta – long lines seem to be the norm here this year, according to all the local news accounts. I showed up at the polling place a bit before 11AM, didn’t get out until after 1. Back in 96, there were no lines midday. Polls officially closed at 7PM, but people who are in line then will be allowed to vote.

According to local election officials, turnout is especially high here, which is good news for Dubya; this is part of Newt’s old district, and the Democrats don’t even bother trying to put up candidates for many local/state offices.

Why on earth would asking for ID be against the rules??? Talk about a prescription for voter fraud!!!

I agree with you completely. From what I understand, the practice of demanding ID at polling places was ruled potentially intimidating to minorities some years ago, and was outlawed. It was discussed briefly in this thread a few weeks ago.

Don’t ask me, I only vote here.

semi-anonymously, of course.

Took ten minutes, in SF. Short line at someone’s garage. No wait to speak of. Nice people, handled things well, and nice new ballots.

Little did they know I’d vote for GW - they’d have thrown me out of there in Communist SF!
