Election reactions

I’m very depressed.

We’ve been promised more of the same.I personally cannot survive on more of the same.

I had hopes that there would be a change. We need one.

As I listened to the candidates and really couldn’t see how anyone that really thought
about what was being said could vote for Bush. Since I am laid off I had plenty of time to
listen.

Not that Kerry was anywhere near perfect. His views on gun control hurt him a lot.

I’m quite fearful of what Bush is going to do with social security. Due to circumstances
beyond my control SS is the only retirement income I am likely to have. I am already
resolved to the fact that I’m going to have to work until I am 72.Which brings up the
question of where I can get a job at that age. Hell I can’t find one now.

It ‘s finally come to the attention of many that this nation is divided. Apparently many
think its something new. Heck just about 1/3 of the adult population didn’t even vote.
Why ? Because they know that it makes no difference who is elected. Their lives will not
be changed for the better.

No one I’ve talked to voted for Bush. Due to being unemployed I haven’t been out much
though.

Its really funny that the TV personalities I’ve heard are bragging that W got more votes
than anyone in history. Duh .There are more US citizens than ever.

Anyway I cannot see anything in the near future that will improve my situation and lots
that can make things worse.

I also worry about the young folks that will have to fight W’s war.

I’m not worrying about the young folks much. Considering only 17% of them actually voted, it looks like they’re not worried either! You know what I recently realized? This sorrow, bewilderment and feeling of displacement I currently feel is not new. I felt exactly the same way back in May when the Abu Ghraib pictures hit the media. Being the good American that I am, after several days of shame, I was able to convince myself that it was an anomaly. That Americans can’t possibly think torture was okay. Six months of denial later, Americans think torture is okay and homosexuals are BAD. Right now, I’m blaming the Red Sox for spinning us into this bizarro world.

Me too. I went to bed at 2:45am on Wednesday in a state of cautious optimism that continued until I got home that afternoon and learned that the rumors that Kerry had done the classy thing and conceded when it became clear that he wasn’t going to win Ohio were true (and our lunatic governor did the same which was as surprising), and I’ve been more relieved than anything else since then.

This is a thread for Kerry supporters, of which I was not one, so I’ll avoid political commentary. My voting years date back to Nixon, and I’ve seen a few pass by.

We lived through eight years of Clinton. You’ll get through it.

So do mine. In fact, the biggest skeleton in my political closet is a vote for RMN. I know we will get through this; if history has taught us anything it is that we can expect change. I also give you your apparent distaste for the Clinton years. I do wonder, though, why Bush has seen fit to methodically wipe out all the good achieved during those eight years. He’s peed enough on the country. We know it is his for the next four years. Could someone please tell him to stop lifting his leg and marking it?

Yeah, prosperity and world respect are all overrated anyway.

I was thrilled with the results. Most people I know at work were let down, but I’m happy Bush won. I wan’t as emotionaly connected to this election as 2000, but I was again happy to see the final outcome.

I haven’t rubbed it in or gloated to anyone. I remember elections that “my guy” lost. Loses are tough but we get over them.
