You know, it occurs to me that the Jewish Holocaust was perhaps the silliest great crime in human history; as it was based entirely on attributing imaginary characteristics to Jews, and got rid of them at no real benefit to their gentile neighbors, solved a “Jewish Problem” that never had been a problem to anyone but the Jews themselves, and did nothing but burden the war effort – those camps tied down Waffen-SS men who could have been used at the front.
How can there still be anybody in the world who wants to repeat something that stupid?!

Minor point but what’s the dope without minor points? The Waffen-SS was the military arm of the SS and wasn’t the branch responsible for running the death camps. The SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV) or ‘death’s head’ was the branch of the SS that ran the death camps. That’s not to say the Waffen SS had no role in the holocaust or other atrocities; there was a good deal of rotation of personnel between the two. Waffen SS personnel wounded and no longer fit for front line duty were often assigned to the SS-TV and the 3rd SS Division Totenkopf was raised from SS-TV concentration camp guards in 1939, back when they were concentration camps rather than extermination camps. Again, not to say the Waffen SS wasn’t an organization that committed atrocities left and right on its own, the Totenkopf Division for example machine gunned 97 British prisoners within a week of its first commitment to action.
The large amount of rolling stock time devoted to the holocaust that would otherwise been used keeping the economy intact and supplying the front was probably a bigger factor than the diversion of SS-VT personnel.
