Electoral College pool, anyone

Do you think the vote will actually be Bush 271, Gore 267, when the official results are announced?

If not, how many defections do you think either will have?

… and if there are more than 2 defections from Bush to Gore, does Gore call Bush and take back his concession again???

And will the words “neener, neener, neener” be used?

Well, last night, Gore said that he told Bush that he wouldn’t call him back again after the latest concession.

So, I guess he wouldn’t.

It’s true he said that. But if three electors flip, he has to call him back, because he’s the prez. Even if he then resignes, then it falls to Leiberman, not Bush.

Since I hijacked the thread, I should probably return it to it’s proper place…

I don’t think they’ll be any defections. It’s too close.

Gore has publicly refused the support of unfaithful electors.

They have been discussing this over at Slate. An unfaithful elector vote is not automatically counted. Majority votes in the House and Senate can disregard any particular electoral vote. Such a majority shouldn’t be a problem in the House, but the Senate would likely be split 50-50 . . . with Al Gore as the tie-breaking vote!

So, would Al Gore keep his promise to refuse support from faithless electors? If presented Gore would have to vote to disallow that elector. If enough electors did this (two), then it would go to the House which would then select Bob Dole as president.
