After a decade without feline domination, I’ve finally decided that it’s time to submit again. (There will be pics, but none yet because I’ve not been selected by one or two).
However, since the last time I had cats, I’ve got a big increase in electronics and the related cords. I need to figure out a way to organize them. This includes television cords, game system cords, various charging cords, and the usual light fixtures and such.
So, suggestions for organizing them so they’re maybe less tempting?
I need to protect cords from hungry rabbits, and so I bought some of those thick plastic “ribbed” cord wrangler tubes to put around thicker cords (like for laptops). They’re supposed to be for collecting multiple cords but you can get them in all kinds of lengths and diameters.
The first thing is, not all cats are interested in cords. Of the four cats my husband and I have owned in the past 10 years or so, only one was interested in cords. So you might not need to do anything.
You can get PVC piping of various widths cut to size at a hardware store. This makes handy conduit and isn’t too expensive. if you’re fussy about the looks of it, you can spray paint it to match your carpet or wall color.
Thanks, Ferret Herder - that looks like a good option. It’s pretty cheap on amazon, so I ordered some to go ahead and start getting them put away (if it also helps hide them/helps me organize them better, so much the better).
I know I don’t have to do this in advance, Hello Again,, but I learned the hard way (for the cord, not the cat) with one of my previous cats who took out a fan cord while it was, luckily, unplugged for the winter. So in doing my combined prep/spring cleaning I’ll go ahead and do this.
Aquarium-style tubing (or similar stuff you can buy by the yard at hardware stores) can help for smaller cords or less determined critters. I’ve also heard about similar tubing that’s treated with a bitter substance (similar to Bitter Apple) that deters critters from continuing to chew at it.
