I have a 1985 Olds Calais. Recently my electric cooling fan motor burnt out and was replaced. Now the fan still won’t run. I am trying to replace the relay to see if that is the issue but I can’t tell which one it is. I have three identical relays in a row. Is there anywhere on-line that I can see a digram of the engine and/or which relay is which? All the wires leading out of the relays are bundled and I’ve been unable to trace where they go.
This applies to the 2.5 engine. It may or may not apply to the 3.0 engine.
My diagram shows four relays in a row at the top of the firewall. It appears that three are identical in mounting, while the fourth (leftmost) is mounted separately with a two-screw bracket. That fourth one is the radiator fan relay. The wire colors to it are red, black/red, brown/white, and green/white.
Before replacing the relay, I would test to make sure that one of its terminals has power at all times, and another has power when the ignition is switched on (doesn’t need the engine running, just needs to be turned to “on”). The switched power is through fuse #21, the unswitched power is through fusible link F. Jumping terminal E (red wire) to terminal A (black/red wire) should power the fan directly, making it run.
