My 2007 Saturn Aura has been a very good car-except that I now have a blower problem. In automatic mode, the fan sometimes doesn’t turn on-until I hit bump-at which point it turns on.
I suspect that the intermittent behavior is a sign that I have a lose connector-the control switches seem to check out.
In any event, how hard is it to access the blower motor on this car? does it require a full dashboard removal?
You mention an automatic mode. Is there a manual fan speed mode? If so, what happens there?
The good news is that blower motors are usually pretty easy to get to and replace. Usually you need to remove the glove compartment. You might even see the connector for the fan without removing the glove box. A Chiltons or Haynes manual (about $20) for that car should have the instructions.
The bad news is that it’s probably not the fan. It could be in the controls and they are a lot more complicated than cars back in the day. The fan switch might even go through a computer first before having a signal sent to the fan. Plus there’s wiring and connectors between the controls and blower motor.
