Elephants bust antelope out of jail

Or a nature preserve, actually. story

They completely ignored the food and just unlocked the gate to free the antelope. Pretty freaky.

Here is another article, from a different paper, that gives much more detail. A South African business paper.

At first, I thought this was a reporter “creating filler material”–i.e. lying–but it appears to be true. My, my. WWNC?

Wait till Disney gets hold of this!

Elephants will take over the world. I, for one, support our new elephant overlords.

Another verifying link.

The antelope were last seen pulling down statues of the preserve owner.

That’s just hysterical.

Covert Op Elephant Rescue Squads

The preserve’s information minister claims there are no elephants and the antelope remain safely behind bars.

Inter-Species Rescue? Very Cool!

That is incredibly cool. Thanks for sharing the links, Tars and Bosda!

Was there an embedded elephant journalist to file a story from the front lines? I’d love to read his/her account.

A demonstration of much-vaunted elephant empathy?

Or maybe they just like opening things.

Aren’t elephants cool?

Of course, the more cynical side of me notes that if my buddies and I had been knocking back some “refreshment” after a tough day on the veldt and someone had forgotten to lock the gate, a wandering herd of elephants might be just the ticket to “explain” how the antelope escaped.

My theory - the elephants got tired of eating plants and “rescued” the antelopes to eat them.

Not a chance. Elephants only eat plants because they can’t stand the perpetual screaming of the leaves.

Can’t say I blame them.

Oh great.

Now I got a picture of an elephant wearing a blue cap & a yellow shash flying Thunderbird 2 stuck in my head. :stuck_out_tongue:

They’re evolving intelligence. Next, they’ll have firearms, jet skis, neutron bombs, and elephant porn. It’s the end of the world, I TELL YOU!!!

Only one thing to do. Must get intoxicated.
