Directed some of the finest movies, yet was tarnished when he named names during the McCarthy hearings. Frankly, I think the snub at the Academy Awards a few years ago was rather disgusting.

He was not snubbed. He was given a lifetime achievement Oscar, and a standing ovation . . . which was sat out by a few individuals.
IMHO, he was no Leni Riefenstahl (in any way), but he was still a heel.
I stand corrected. It was a controversy, though.
