Leaving aside the issue of the kid himself, the case has enormous ramifications for the right of all of us to raise our families as we see fit. All too frequently, our government and legal system chooses to second guess and supecede parental authority. An adverse ruling in this case would have set a terrible precedent, and accelerated this trend. All freedom loving Americans should cheer the total legal defeat for the Miami relatives.

Him coming back to Cuba is the kind of thing Castro uses in his anti-America propoganda to show how much better Cuba is.

… and Fidel cares about Santeria since when? Now, I don’t practice Santeria (nor do I have a crystal ball), but something tells me that Mr. Castro has stomped that as far underground as it will go. Besides, Castro isn’t immortal. By the time Elian gets old enough to make a difference, they should already be building a nice big Castro memorial in downtown Havana.
Anyway, I’m glad he’s going back. Everybody I’ve talked to, including not a few Republicans, believes that he should have been sent back a long time ago.
But couldn’t this have waited another hour?? Here I am, trying to watch an episode of Sally Jessy Raphael about 14 year olds having kids, and this ‘breaking news’ comes in and interrupts the show just when Sally gets pissed. So I miss the big blow up. She’s so funny when she’s mad. yawn So now there’s this guy standing near the plane that’s taking young Elian home, talking endlessly about the weather. Why the hell are there 2 planes??? Ohhh…to make it look more important when they arrive in Havana. Media hype and stuff. If you believe that Elian was rescued by dolphins, I suppose you would also believe that the image of the “virgin mary” popped up on a damn mirror. The kid had been ashore a month or so before his Miami Maniacs cooked that lie. Where the hell were the damn dolphins while every one else on the stinking boat croaked?
I live in the Miami-Dade area, my life has been severely disrupted by the Elian saga and I will be damn glad to have it over and done with.
