Elite Warriors Through the Ages

No, this isn’t a “Who Would Win?” thread but, rather, a request for a list of the warrior elites in various cultures like knights, samurai, hoplites, and so on. I’m bored out of my mind on a rainy Sunday afternoon and I just finished reading an interesting essay on ninjas and thought I’d follow it up with some reading on other martial classes.

Thanks in advance.

The Bat-Men of the ancient Aztecs.

They were always prepared.

The Persians had the “Apple Bearers” who used a golden apple for their symbol, & as a perk, had the privilege of addressing the King as “cousin”.

And how could I forget the Spartans? :smack:

The Ottoman Turks conscripted Christian youths to form their military elite, the Janissaries.

This publisher has just about everything you’d ever want. Look for the Elite and Warrior series.

Very cool. Thanks, Can Handle the Truth.

I’ve always been a little fascinated by the Theban Sacred Band of the ancient Greeks. I always found it kind of interesting (especially in light of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” fracas) that one of the most elite fighting units of the Greek city-states was composed entirely of gay lovers.

Hey, thanks for the Military Book Linkie, CHTT. It is giving me great ideas for future presents.
