Elk Grove v. Newdow

Thought yous guys might enjoy this amicus brief filed in the Pledge of Allegiance case:

http://thedirtyrag.com/articles/amicus_brief_02-1624.htm

Enjoy!

Since the OP didn’t pose a subject for debate, let’s all debate whether or not I enjoyed it!!!

I say I didn’t enjoy it… but maybe I’m lying!!! There seems to be a suspicious lack of evidence as to whether I did or didn’t enjoy it, and a lot of questions have already been raised.

So, Ready… set… debate!

I’d say it’s clear: if you didn’t enjoy it, but you said you did, then the statement you made – I’m lying – is only true if, in fact, the statement was not a lie, but you said it was, which means I don’t know whether you enjoyed it or you didn’t.

But, that’s not to say that you did enjoy it, only that if you didn’t then . . . .

I think you enjoyed the subtitles. The footnotes, not so much.

The brief was not brief enough for me. I think I’ll wait for the movie.

OK. Here’s to debate. Just as the Mayor of San Francisco has decided to take the law into his own hands (allowing same-sex couples to marry), let’s say the Mayor of Moab, Utah has done something similiar: he’s allowing men to marry as many wives as they like. And the Superintendent of Public Instruction of San Carlos, California – a town with a population that’s something like 90% Hindu – has altered the Pledge of Allegiance. Students in public school now recite a pledge to the flag of one nation under the gods.

You’re in the movie. Are you part of the mob supporting what the mayors and the superintendent have done – do you cheer for freedom and civil rights – or are you part of the mob throwing rocks at these loonies for defying our tradtions?

Chose a side.

LR: Someone beat you to it in this thread by about 2 hrs.

The story of my previous life!

I’m on the side in favor of following the Constitution.

Pledging “one nation under God” clearly violates separation of church and state, so throw that out.

Banning same-sex marriages clearly violates equality for all citizens, so let 'em get hitched already.

Not sure where I should stand for the big climax, Mr. DeMille.

And the Mormons in Moab? Should a man be allowed to marry many wives?

You should ask your attorneys to explain to you the difference between Establishment and Free Exercise.

Yes, and why should I pose this question to them? They’re sure to ask. Thanks.

Because they’re different, and you might find it illuminating to learn that difference. I’d explain it myself, but I’d hate to intrude on another attorney’s gainful employment.

Now, is there some reason that you continue to treat this board like your personal feedback mechanism for that trite little amicus brief? Given your posting history, I’m beginning to sense chowder and marching music.

Let me guess: you feel small, but you feel bigger when you take the opportunity to belittle others. Is that about right?
