Elmer Fudd accent

A customer of my wife’s has an “accent” like Elmer Fudd. Really!

He can talk normal “unaccented” English. But then suddenly, he’ll switch into talking like Elmer Fudd.

It’s not a put-on or anything like that. He talks that way to my wife, to me when I was doing some contract work for him.

Is there a reason someone might develop this speach pattern? Hearing problems? Speach impediments? Watching too many Bugs Bunny cartoons?

Previous Thread re: Elmer Accent

There’s a website that is able to “Fuddize” any text you give it. It’s very funny to take a very serious memo and have it changed to Fudd-speak.

It’s called Dialectizer.com I believe. Try it out.

I always thought it was a Boston accent…

It’s called the Dialectizer but it’s at http://rinkworks.com/dialect/

It does seem to be common in Boston. There was a famous announcer there who cracked me up with his comments about “Wobeht Pawwish”, the Celtics center at the time.

Semi-Highjack: what regional dialect is it that “Alf” (the furry space-alien muppet who’s shilling for long-distance) speaks in? A friend said Philadelphia… Can that be right?

I’ll close this and refer posters to the link provided by Markxxx.
