Emitt Rhodes (1950-2020)

Story here:

Rhodes was the classic example of an artist sabotaged by his record company. He was called “The American Paul McCartney” for his first album, an eminently listenable collection of irresistible pop songs, and which he played all the instruments. But his record company squeezed him for more product plus a tour, and the follow-up was a flop. He basically stopped writing and recording for years.

R.I.P.

I just put his first album on my iPod a week or so ago. And decided “Face On The Floor” was my favorite.

Glad he died peacefully. My first thought these days is “Did the virus git’im?”

Oh, and since I love obscure “Mid-60s Fake British Invasion” bands… here’s Emitt in Palace Guard, one of the best of the many “Fake Brit” bands in L.A… “Falling Sugar”.
