Considering I will be asleep when the world ends at 4:11am MST on 21 December 2012, we are having an “End of the World” dinner the night of the 20th. I am going to make each person in our family the meal they most want to have as their last one before the world ends.
So far I have:
Sister-in-law: Swedish meatballs
Niece: Risotto and peas or homemade pasta
Cad Jnr: Storebought ravioli
Mrs. Cad: Probably lobster
Me: Standing rib roast dry aged in my refrigerator
What would I cook for you?
It’s so hard to make the choice. As a character in a story I once read said of his sister “she would eat anything standing still, or even moving slowly.”
Hmm, I love cheese, I love meat, I love pasta. How about lasagna, with thick cut garlic toasted bread. Salad with blue cheese dressing, and vanilla ice cream for dessert, with chocolate sauce.
Fat, plump, juicey oysters, coated n cracker crumbs and fried.
Oh, wait a minute, if it’s the end of the world, I don’t have to think about blood sugar and weight gain issues! In that case, a giant baked potato with the peel all crispy, with lots and lots of butter and some sour cream. Potatoes mashed with butter and heavy cream, topped with turkey gravy wel-seasoned with rosemary, sage, and thyme. Home fries with lots of onion and peppers. Potatoes.
My stepmom used to do fried oysters this way for Sunday breakfast.
OK let me change my answer to Surf & Truf with a dry-aged ribeye with homemade Montreal steak seasoning and cracker-coated fried oysters and homemade biscuits.
And Mrs. Cad is considering handmade pasta with brown butter and mizythra cheese.
A non fast food bacon cheeseburger with a side of perfectly cooked thin fries heavily salted and peppered and a side of thousand island dressing to dip the fries in.
