Endless Legend releases today!

Just a reminder of yet another amazing PC game coming out (along with Wasteland 2!!) - Endless Legend is out of early access and fully releases today!

This is a 4X strategy games by the devs of Endless Space (and Dungeon of the Endless), which plays very much like Civ, but it’s got it’s own innovations and style.

First, the world and lore are a strange and interesting mix of fantasy and sci-fi. Combat isn’t auto-resolved (well, you do have that option), but instead, when enemy units do battle, a slice of the game map opens up and a turn based system similar to something out of Heroes of Might and Magic plays out. Like in Endless Space, customizing your units with weapons and armor, also plays a role in diversifying the various factions.

And the factions themselves, unlike in something like Civ, are truly different, many bringing entirely different systems to play, not to mention unique special abilities and units. It’s not just about +% to this and -% to that.

I loved Endless Space, even though I thought combat in that game was lacking. The diverse factions and the flawless UI sucked me in for many hours. This game promises to do the same on both fronts! There is something really neat, evocative about the board-game-like art style, and the UI is just super sleek.

If you like 4X games at all, definitely give this one a look-see!

Release trailer!

Octavian will have to wait, gonna play my first campaign tonight ;)

Looks good (looks real good), but I’ve been burned on 4x fantasy games before. I’ll wait for reviews from major outlets to start coming in, and maybe through a run of patches.

I haven’t heard of this before, but I honestly haven’t been paying attention to games lately. It sounds really interesting, I’m going to look more into it.

So, Iron Man is an evil knight in this…

It looks very promising. Hopefully it will be to Master of Magic what Endless Space was to the Master of Orion series. I’m not sure if I’ll pick it up right away, but I’m intrigued enough to consider paying full price rather than waiting for a sale.

It’s fun, but I suck at turn-based strategy games and I’m stomping the AI. The AI on normal is really, truly braindead.

This game keeps crashing and it’s starting to annoy me.

Has the game improved any?

I’ve been playing it a bit. Master of Magic it ain’t. I think only one faction uses anything resembling spells. Kind of an interesting setting, though. I rather like the technology descriptions. Combat is sort of fun, but it seems rather unwieldy to try to issue orders to a large army.

The oddest thing to me is how city growth works. It seems like making long tendrils of boroughs builds up FIDS a lot better than clustering boroughs to level them up. I’m experimenting with that now. After my first play-though, it became apparent that rivers and coastal tiles have such very very good yields once the appropriate improvements are built. On my second game, I’m mostly building my cities follow rivers and coastlines.
