Bit early doors this mate.
We’re enjoying the silence here in the UK from the relentless media onslaught that is the football season, and I say that as a someone who follows the game closely.
The transfer window is not really something to enjoy as an Everton fan - I would really appreciate it if David Moyes went out and bought the ZOG from Wigan, but given he might cost some money and want some wages this will be problematic. The club need a proven striker, that is certain.
It will be interesting to me to see what happens to Jack Rodwell. 2 years ago he was the midfield prospect in English football - you’ve never seen a more composed teenager on the ball. His star has waned somewhat, mainly due to injuries and a stop-start season. So do we cash in on his potential now and try and sell him for serious money, or keep hold? He might be a future England captain, but some of his performances this season suggest he might be the next Jermaine Jenas. Still only 19/20 though.
Alex McLeish. Hmmmmm. Not sold on him, but pissing of the blue scum is delightful.
Not sold on him would be a diplomatic assessment of most Villa’s fans reaction to McLeish.
Tbh there’s clearly trouble at mill there. People should be queuing up for that job - yet the Wigan manager knocks you back and you appoint someone who’s just got Birmingham relegated? Whilst passing over the at least decent Mark Hughes? Fiasco really, and makes no sense unless Lerner is making it clear that the wallet is being kept in the troosers.
I think Villa fans should give him a chance… even though his style of play is different from villas mentality, im sure can do good than previous season… they have some great player and can switch to attacking display whenever needed
I think not selling him.is good for everton. he has great qualities and im sure he is a future star… so it’d be unwise to sell him now for money… his value is going to get higher anyways…
Im personally following Nasri saga… I hope United will clinch this one.
I don’t have a major issue with him. Villa fans will always find something to complain about, though. It’s in the blood.
God I hope not. It’s getting hard to stay an Arsenal fan. I get that they are a model of fiscal responsibility, but damn it open the pocket book and keep Nasri and Clichy. Then sign a solid centre back to pair with Vermaelen and a striker who won’t get injured 10 times a year. They need some size and strength to build from the back, and they need durability because injuries seem to destroy them every year.
Yes on Nasri. Clichy, I can live without. One or two center backs is required, obviously. Keeping Cesc is also required, doubly so if Nasri leaves (God please not to ManU). Arshavin and Rosicky can take a hike for all the good they’ve done (although the little Russian has had his moments, I guess).
At least they have the inside track on that striker with the massive head.
Can’t say that Samba or even Cahill really get me going, but they have to be better than the dreaded Koscielny/Squillaci combo… oh, and how about another keeper while we’re spending Arsene’s money, eh?
Hmm, for some reason Clichy gets no love, but to me he’s one of the most under-rated players in the game. He’s brilliant, consistent, and rarely injured overall. I’d rather keep him, honestly, but I feel like Nasri’s had his semi-breakout year and is due to have a brilliant run next season (with the right support). I think Arsenal’s biggest need is someone to replace Viera (still) which could be Song if he matures and gets comfortable with his environment, and solid, reliable centre backs and strikers who don’t get injured every second game.
Fuck you Man U. May you all rot in hell. It’s only June and my season is ruined.
See, I wouldn’t describe him as consistent at all. I mean, he’s no Eboue back there (thank God), but on more than a few occasions he would back off inexplicably and let the cross come in, or make rash challenges without support.
He does avoid injury, which is a talent not to be discounted (RVP… cough cough…).
It really depends on whether Gibbs is ready (although, speaking of oft injured…). Getting a replacement fullback would obviously be required, for depth if nothing more, if Clichy moves on.
We’re just 10 days away from the season starting, so I figured this deserved a bump.
United looked good in the US, apparently not in France, though (8-2 loss to Marseille yesterday). Talk on the United forum I read is that the Sneijder deal is close, and that PSG are interested in Berbatov. Sneijder is a great player, but if signing him means losing Berbatov and knocking Tom Cleverly down a peg for the CM position, I’m not sure I want it. United can win the League without Sneijder. But I don’t think Champions League glory beckons without him.
It seems that Chelsea still haven’t made a transfer splash yet, but I could be forgetting someone. Arsenal are still clinging to Fabregas and Nasri, City still have Tevez, and Liverpool have a ton of midfielders. Spurs have managed to hang on to Modric, who is the player I’d really love to see United buy, but it doesn’t look to be in the cards.
Blackburn certainly look like the likeliest team to be relegated, not including the 3 promoted clubs. I’d be fine without them in the EPL come August 2012.
Gutted at the leg break of Chung Yong Lee, but on the plus side Holden is almost ready to return. We need teh Cahill saga to conclude though, and we badly need a proven goal getter.
16 goals on Sunday. Glad I had power back.
That United game was unbelievable - having come of age with boring, boring Arsenal, seeing them so inept at the back was staggering.
And, to be gratuitous, I will consider the final score United 6, Arsenal 2, Judas Bastard 2.
It was a good day to be a United fan! Love that City scores 5 and United comes out and scores 8! I always enjoy watching anyone take down Arsenal, but today it was almost like watching someone kick a puppy. Are Wegner’s days numbered?
villa, I have to say, I’ve been really, really impressed with Young. I thought he’d do well, but this good this quickly? The anger’s understood, though.
This is looking like it’s going to be a runaway for United and City. Chelsea had that amazing start last year, but both United and City look to have a lot more depth, and definitely more match-winners. I think, for this season anyway, it’s going to be like La Liga where the top two teams both go over 90 points, and losses will be horrible, and draws will feel like losses. How much of a say Chelsea has? I’m not sure yet. I’m thinking they’ll grind out results for a while, but probably drop out once they’ve played the Manchester clubs.
I know not this “Young” of whom you speak. Maybe it is a pseudonym because Judas Quisling Benedict Arnold Lord HawHaw was too long to fit on a shirt.
It always sucks to lose a player who came up through the youth ranks and was a Villain to his core. Oh, right…
I’d recorded the United/Arsenal game but inadvertantly caught the score on a fantasy football site.
“That’s GOT to be a typo…”
The horror. The absolute horror. My City kick ass today, and go high atop the table…only to have United humiliate Arsenal and inch past City by a goal. But, it *is *City; my guess is they’re in first place for about 65% of the season, and then finish 6th.
I’m a staunch ABU supporter but I’ve been respecting/fearing them lately. A friend and I recently had a discussion that consisted of us asking questions like “Who the fuck is Smalling? Who the fuck is Cleverly? Who the fuck is Wellbeck? And why are they so fucking good?!?!” They have all these players I’ve never heard of and they’re BRILLIANT, while Arsenal has all these players I’ve never heard of and they lose 8-2.
