Chelsea were awesome, although they did not go undefeated (they lost one game to Manchester City). However, this was during the regular Premiership campaign which they won. There is no playoffs in this case, just the team with the best record is declared the Champion. Arsenal and Manchester United played in a separate, albeit concurrently running, competition, called the FA Cup. This is a knockout competition that Chelsea was in until they got knocked out in the quarterfinals (I beleive) by Newcastle United.
It got asked in this thread, about twenty posts ago :wally (if you go back, we attempt to give a convoluted explanation of the complexities of having several competitions at once )
Well, I have yet to see any highlights of the Liverpool-AC Milan match. Hopefully I’ll get a chance this weekend.
Now that my loyalties are tilting towards Everton, I would be highly disappointed if Liverpool were to somehow bump the Toffies from their rightful place in the Champion’s League for next season. Granted, Everton may get eliminated early in the Champion’s League next season - but there’s no guarantee that Liverpool will repeat this year’s performance if they are allowed to defend their title.
If Everton does get bumped in favor of Liverpool, I expect the rivalry between the two to become even more intense (not that it already is). Which, I suppose from a marketing perspective, is probably good for the EPL. But if that fate befalls Everton, I hope they do everything in their power to make life difficult for the Reds (and I’ll be rooting for the Toffies to crush them when they meet next year - make the wankers walk alone!! :)).
Heh heh. Put them in at the first stage, so they either get humiliated by some bunch of Lithuanian farmers, or have to cancel their lucrative pre-season plans to play the following rounds. And then get stuffed by Everton. That’d be nice.
Looks like we’ve been and gone and bought Laurent Robert (subject to a medical). Must admit I don’t know much about him as a player. Anyone in the position to give me the lowdown?
He’s been extremely vocal in his criticism of Newcastle recently, hence (I suspect) the fact he’s moving.
He’s viewed as a typically arrogant Frenchman who doesn’t pull his weight on the pitch.
However, he has a left foot like a traction engine… has scored some amazing long-range goals in the last couple of seasons. But 90% of the time he doesn’t contribute.
With the right manager he could be a useful addition to a squad, but if he gets the hump he’ll sulk for the entire season.
hmmm. sounds like a Big Sam special then. We have had a frenchman or two through the doors, so hopefully they know how to keep him sweet, and at least he will have N’Gotty yo talk to. A wait and see signing it seems.
Sunderland have got themselves a bargain from the Portman Road Farmer’s Market, £1.25m for Kelvin Davies. We’re going to be into the bottom six by November, with the schoolkids that are going to make up most of our ‘squad’.
GorillaMan, enough of a pessimist to put money against us winning matches.
