Well, that’s all true. And it’s all material that seems appropriate as an answer to his GQ question. But where’s the Pit material?
This is more like Pit material. (In other words, here you’re indicting the character of the person, rather than simply answering the question he asked in the first place.) But I have never been a valet, so I am not equipped to say whether what Enola Straight wanted to do was “overreaching.” Personally, it would bother me not one whit to find out a valet had done something to make it possible to push my car around the lot without keys, provided what he had done was guaranteed not to damage my car. (In the thread you linked to, he mentions that there are manufacturer-provided ways to do this on at least some models, pretty much by just pushing a button.) But I realize tastes differ.
The “East German judge” is the one who (apocryphally) always gave unfairly discounted scores to non-East Bloc athletes in the Olympics. This is, of course, before the fall of the Soviet Union and reunification of Germany. Thanks for making me feel on the far side of middle-aged for having to explain the punchline. :o
I gotta say, those GoJacks don’t look like a very safe way to move a car to me, unless you’re on a very level and smooth surface. Not only do they not have brakes, but they’re free-swiveling casters, so the car will move and spin in any old direction it feels like.
Having moved a couple of zillion cars using just floor jacks (not nearly as upscale as GoJacks) I can tell you this is not as big a problem as you might think. If you have two guys it is not really a problem. Unless your valet drive is nicknamed Lover’s Leap.
Looks like he was right on about people drawing the wrong conclusion.
Sorry Stranger but both the East German and French judges are only giving you 3.5s on this one.
Damn the French. Just when you think they’re on your side, they go and stab you in the back, or sell Exocet anti-ship missiles to your enemy, or fart in your general direction. I hate those guys, the bloody swine. The problem is they make such good wine.
Well a message board is probably a good place to start trying to find out what you don’t know, such that you can go and do more proper research right? A good place to find out what you need to be aware of and where you need to start finding more information? Its should be a good FIRST port of call, but should never be used as a last port of call?
