Australian election threads would be pretty dull - you’ve got the Labor (like the Dems) and Liberal (like the Pubbies), and they have an election, and one of them wins. The only difference is we don’t have this drawn-out “primaries” guff - which is great because the election campaign itself seems long and boring enough.
Especially because most people here have either A) Already made their minds up who they’re voting for anyway and don’t see any particular desire or reason to try and change what other people think or who they plan to vote for, or B) Think they’re all wankers and therefore not vote, or cast a deliberately invalidated vote.
Personally I hate political threads. I don’t mean to be trite, but I just ignore them. Thing is, they wouldn’t be popular if they weren’t popular.
You are one of my favorite posters, Martini Enfield, but isn’t this fair play or democracy at work? Isn’t this what the members paid their hard earned dollars for?
This is true, but part of my $15 subscription also gives me the right to bitch about it.
True enough.
Another reason I like you, truth in advertising:
So, you’re saying you want more inane political threads? In that case, I suggest unbanning Reeder and inviting him/her back.
As of this post, on the front pages of the Pit and GD, 25/100 threads are about the US election–most of them in GD.
I guess that’s a relatively high percentage for a single topic, but politics is one of the central focuses of GD. Or at least it has been since I’ve been around. Even if we had the same number threads about religion, the majority of threads would still be about something else.
