Enough With The Fucking Game/flirt Threads!!!

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

I am sick and fucking tired of the plethora of game and chat-room threads that have choked the life out of this message board. Here’s a typical morning for me on the boards:

I sit and wait 5 minutes for a single Great Debate Thread to load, so some witless goof can morph a word into another word.

I get another infuriating “504 Gateway Time Out” message instead of getting access the boards, so that some knob, who is not nearly as funny as he thinks he is, can repeat, for the tenth time in the damnable thread, a song title.

I watch sadly as a truly amusing thread that gets 10 posts and maybe 200 views, drops off the front page and into oblivion so that some other knucklehead can flirt, yet again, with somebody else instead of going to one of the approximately 2 gazillion chat rooms on the ‘Net.

Every time these things happen, my interest in this wonderful place wanes a bit. Every time these things happen, the Fight Against Ignorance gets a little harder. Every time these things happen, I wish I didn’t like this place so much. And every time these things happen, I don’t know, maybe God kills a kitten.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

I am not saying these kinds of threads don’t have a place, on occasion. A Holiday faux-Party thread here, and a consistently witty corrupt wish thread should, and can, have a place here. However, we don’t need 5 of these goddamn threads going every single day!!! And these threads don’t have to stay on the front page for two long, tedious weeks. And, trust me on this one, when you post a one-liner (which has probably been posted before on pages 4, 9, 13, and 17) on page 18 of the latest trendy “game” thread, you are just being mindlessly repetitive, and not original or cutely ironic. Just plain annoying.

Here’s a little tidbit of information for you, also: Of the 10 threads with the most replies in them in MPSIMS, 9 of them have been posted in since October. That’s over 10,000 posts in only 3 months, in only 9 threads. Please, for the love of Cecil, STOP IT!!!

Don’t get me wrong, some of my favorite threads have been of this variety. The Guy Thread was pure comic gold (for most of it, but it too went on a bit too long). The now-famous “If LOTR had been written by somebody else” thread was genius, and well-deserving for praise, although there was certainly some repetitive parts. And, I myself, took part in the “A” thread, but only in the beginning and only in moderation. However, these are the exception, to the tediousness that has clogged this board of late.

It boggles my mind that somebody can post 100, 200, even up to 300 times in a single thread, all without adding much of anything.

Feel free to flame me for being conceited or hypocritical or any other insult you wish to fling, but, please, do me one simple favor: Before you push “Submit New Thread” on that Eighth Edition of the Word Association Game, or before you push “Submit Reply” to add the 20th time somebody posted “Do you Think I’m Sexy” in the song title game, take a deep breath, and think twice. Maybe even hop over to General Questions and see if you can learn something new. Maybe even start a Debate about something that really interests you. Something that you hadn’t really thought about for awhile because you were too busy finding out whether that one guy did really have sex with that seventeen year old in the swinger’s club. Heck, maybe even slow yourself down and just enjoy other people’s viewpoints about life.

Please.

Party popper! No, that’s not right . . . that was the old days. Party pooper. Come join us in the . . .

It's great cos everyone's hot on the Internet!

So Hamlet, how you doin?

You knew somebody would…I just thought I’d get it out of the way early

I agree. Game threads suck donkey scrotum.

I thought the OP was flirting with his trash-talk threads.

I have to agree that the flirting is really, REALLY annoying.

Awwww…Diogenes you’re so cute when you capitalize like that…

Ouch! Don’t hit me.

Agreed…game threads are okay every now and again but when you have to wade through 10 or so threads a day they can get rather annoying.

You will NOT discourage me from Name That Tune threads. In fact, stop fucking making dissertation posts in GD so that I don’t get timed out when trying to post my VERY IMPORTANT ANSWER in the thread I’m interested in in CF.

So here’s your flame, you conceited, holier-than-thou, psuedo-intellectual. I will not only start threads you like.
But the flirt threads can go.

Here here.

I don’t even go into IMHO or MPSIMS anymore. Too much juvenile crap to wade through.

Sad, really. Virtual flirting is a pretty sorry substitute for the real thing. These kids should be out drinking Skol vodka and groping each other IRL. They’re wasting valuable bandwidth and youthful lust at the same time.

My vote: hose 'em down with Clearasil and send 'em on their way.

Oh, Hamlet. I do so adore you. And I do so loathe the ~virtual circle jerk~ and “Name the body part you’re touching!” threads.

Maybe more Pit threads is the answer to speeding up the server.

Son of a bitch…

I typed that out WAY back when the thread first started and timed out, and then I had to go to the fucking bank. Damn you, cards! Damn you! Foiled again!

Just kidding. I did have it typed out, though. Stupid hamsters.

So…got a girlfriend?

Ava

Well, if we’re going to bitch about the game threads, then maybe we should bitch about the bandwith being “wasted” on threads here in the Pit. There are a lot of Pit threads that I read the subject/title for and think, “Good grief, get over it!” I think more than a few people start thread in the Pit just so they can throw the f’inheimer around. (Disclaimer: I am not saying that’s what the OP in this thread did.)

My point is simply that it’s a public board, and as long as people put their threads in the correct forum, we’ve no right to censor them. Now, the cases in which someone begins shameless flirting and/or hijacks a Great Debate thread entirely, I totally agree… KNOCK IT OFF! But otherwise, we all need to accept that each of us has our own individual likes and dislikes and reasons for being members of the SDMB.

Find me a 10 page pit thread where 1 person has 300+ posts.

I have no sesame seeds in my bagel.

What? Oh, yeah, yeah, joke and game threads. Yeah, they suck.

That was cool, Biggirl. So, how you doin’?

I totally agree. The lame ass game threads have gone too far. I know someone will say “if you don’t like them, don’t read them” and I don’t. They slow things down for the rest of us and the pendulum needs to swing back the other way a bit. All of that stuff is fine in moderation and we need some better Moderation in these threads.

Haj

Next time read for comprehension. The bagel thread had maybe six responses and was shut down by a Mod.

A typical game thread will have a couple of thousand responses, most of which will be by five or six people with 200-400 posts apiece. There will be three or four of these threads active at any given time. The small handful of “super-posters” on the game threads are using the SDMB resource way, way out of proportion to the rest of us and slowing it down for everybody. They also stray from the mission of fighting ignorance.

Some of the fun and games is great. I’m not trying to say where the line should be drawn but there is way too much now.

Haj

I always thought there should be a 5page rule on game threads then lockdown.

'course I maybe biased b/c I don’t see the point in game threads. I posted in one once and thought “wow that wasn’t very fun or interesting. Time to move on”

I want to have time to wade through 10 or so threads a day…

Seriously, I like games, especially when linked from Threadspotting, because seeing cleverness brightens my day. Yeah, I don’t post much, but I love a good read. Maybe a games board would help? Then you can yell at people to move conversations where they belong, or moderators could do it for them. Just a thought.
