Enterprise Stratagem spoilers

And now that I’m back into my usual Trek nitpicking role, let me state the obvious:

The whole episode was about trying to trick Degra into divulging the location of the Xindi weapon.

Have they forgotten already that they have a Vulcan aboard? Despite her personal distaste for the procedure, and the fact that her people have a thinly-disguised homophobia about it, couldn’t T’Pol be persuaded to mind-meld with Degra and get the information that way? (Even if the answer’s “no,” the scriptwriters could have at least mentioned the possibility!)

I missed the first few seconds, so i was all like “Huh?” then was all like “WHa-?!” but then it sank in that it was fake and i was like “AAaaahh…”

It was okay, not the best, but the redundant tricks are about what would happen in real life. And Hoshi was in it, so it gets pluses

I thought about that, also, then just reasoned that the Xindi Engines must be powered by sucking in random crap from space

Which, in almost all regions of deep space, would consist of … vacuum. And more vacuum. And maybe a little side order of extra vacuum.

It wouldn’t be the engines that would be doing the sucking, here.

They suck in the suck, and since they are on Enterprise, they got alot of suck!

Ah, yes, Tomax and Xamot! “So much the same, if one’s in trouble the other feels pain!”

Tracer, we’ve had this discussion before. They’re bussard ramscoops, you pedant. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, could he play the FO that has a “thing” for Jack in the Sophie?

I don’t think grammar matters in dialogue. Lucky Jack says “ain’t” for example.

I think you have an atom or two of Hydrogen per cc in the vacumn of space, however you choose to spell it. Perhaps there is enough to scoop up traveling at high speeds.

Overall I liked the episode, but something always nags at me. It seems as though everything is disjointed. All of the characters dialogues really seem to be monologues. I rarely get the feeling the characters are interacting, just acting. It seems to be focussed on the Quantum-Show. Everyone else’s conversation’s are to serve his plotline. Am I just egocentric and projecting, or does anyone else feel this?

And now to the chronological pick of the nits:[ul][li]Auh, the “Tracer Intake Manifolds” :stuck_out_tongue: So the engines expect near vacuum and gag if too much comes in. So they must not fly into any solar systems where the density is So much higher. And heaven forbid going anywhere near an asteroid belt or a planet’s rings, not to mention a cometary path.[]Archer dumped 500L of warp plasma from a suspectedly-small freighter. But Enterprise is charged 200L when the automated facility bargains to completely repair it?[]I’m glad Phlox’s Bloodworms are competely compatible with an alien species. And it was lucky it was put in the nose but happened to migrate to the arm, ready to be removed, by cutting someone’s Wrist without so much as a band-aid, and thereby instill Trust.[]As NoClueBoy said, why isn’t Degra suspicious that they both speak the same language and he can understand Archer’s idioms?[]This “Xindi Council looking for a New Homeworld” vs. “The Homeworld was destroyed in the future” vs. ‘Enterprise finds the homeworld destroyed 120 years ago’ is confusing.[]So Archer has some Andorian Ale in the escape ship. How would he have explained that if Degra asked? Okay, just pass it off as Malosian.[]I just love welding guns (and phasers) that make these Perfectly Steady beams that are Exactly on target and seal Exactly along the the right seam. :)[]Does Archer sleep when outside the simulator? Does anyone? Oh that’s right, T’Pol does, she’s in her nighty lounging on her bed all the time.[]We know when there’s flashback because T’Pol’s outfit changes color. :)[]I get that Degra is out with just two guys analyzing the weapon “failure”. He doesn’t like the Council meddling and wanting to pull his funds.[]Shouldn’t Enterprise be worried that Degra would blow up his ship, launch a torpedo, or otherwise commit sabotage when Enterprise forces them to dock?[]Degra says, “When they find I’m missing they’ll find you and Destroy You!” Why the Coitus don’t they do that Each Coital Time they capture the Coital Enterprise!?!?!?[]So Phlox is quite the Happy Do when he can violate his Denobulan Oath’s and aid some torture? And isn’t it fortunate that Xindi-Primate and Xindi-Reptilian neuro-systems are identical? I always thought Primates and Reptiles managed their physiology in pretty much the same way.[]So they fake Degra into thinking it’s 3 years later? Glad Degra didn’t have any scars, or aches and pains, or Taco-dinner-that-gives-him-heartburn, or diabetes, etc. that they didn’t know about.[]When Archer says the ship is going through Anomalies and the ship is shaken, Degra doesn’t wonder that no distortion wave doesn’t come through?[]Degra calls and Enterprise fakes a response from “Thalen.” How do they know of Thalen, the relationship, his voice pattern, and mannerisms? How do they know about the communication protocols?[]Archer must be pretending to be drunk when he relates the story of “thousands of kilometers of beaches.” Either that or it’s one really well terraformed planet. But I’m glad they mentioned the anti-intoxicant.[]Why does Degra say Azaati Prime is not too far when Enterprise says that it’s 3 weeks away? Is Degra just thinking of the warp vortex?[]Hoshi, Hoshi, Hoshi! You don’t need to quote the coordinates as they are typed![]How did Degra know how to 1) enter coordinates into a navigation panel he’s never seen and 2) encrypt said coordinates on an interface he’s never seen?[]Did Archer use morse code to tap out “STAND BY”? Why didn’t they give him a subdermal vocal transceiver? Do the MACOs have subdermal transceivers so that they can communicate with each other - but no one has any way to transmit?[]T’Pol, when you tell Archer that Degra has a weapon, SAY “He’s holding it dehind him And It’s A Knife.” Don’t let him wonder what the weapon is![]I liked the feeling from Archer that he really worked at holding back cutting Degra’s throat. :)[]Why make the weapon so far from the test field? If it’s near the jump point to Earth, maybe, but they had to jump it over to the test field. They could test more often, but then maybe the red giant area has more energy for the facilities.[]I thought it was suspicious Enterprise would try to enter and navigate the vortex. It was almost confirmed when Degra was conveniently taken to the bridge instead of returned to the brig. Because the idea was executed quickly I knew it was a ruse but didn’t know why until the end. I was pleasantly surprised at faking the trip to get Degra to confirm it’s validity. :)[]How does Hull Plating come “Back On-Line”? Does it have an internet connection? Did someone turn it over to cover the coffee stain?[]I’m glad Phlox’s engram erasing is not detectable with Xindi technology and can cover the Entire Time Period of Degra’s capture.[/ul][/li]Archer sees that Xindi have feelings too but the rationale of a desire for genocide isn’t explained. Being fooled into this is reasonable, but what would you think if you woke up in a box with an Iraqi soldier? Grade: A-; good idea but with some logic issues.

Next week: Sweep’s Sex

This has been Trek News: [sup]We Retort[/sup] [sub]You Deride[/sub]

From MST3K’s Teenagers From Outer Space:

But, what about the TORTURE?!

Enterprise continues its wildly uneven run with a wildly uneven episode. The script seemed pretty tight (except for the whole mind meld thing), but man, Quantum’s acting was sub-Shatner in this one. Remember what Tom Baker said–it’s all about spewing nonsense in a convincing manner. Phlox is really the standout of the cast. Why are the doctor characters always my favorites?

Grade: B

This part bugged the heck out of me. Remember the TNG episode where they encountered some xenophobic species who knocked out the entire crew and towed them a safe distance from their world and then made it look like they hit an unstable wormhole? Most crews would just count their blessings that they weren’t torn apart or flung halfway across the galaxy and avoid the place like the plague in the future. But the “knockout ray” didn’t affect Data and he revived the crew by the time the boarding crew arrived. They made a deal to wipe their memories and re-set the ships chronometer and such to make it look like they had never encountered the planet. But they screwed up. The Dr’s plants weren’t put in stasis, so they grew noticably during the interval. Worf had a broken wrist which he didn’t recall breaking. Tons of little things added up to point towards a “missing day”. I can’t imagine Archer et al. being throrough enough to erase enough of the evidence to make their presence unknown.

Human skin particles, hair, alien food in their digestive systems, the cut and heal from the bloodworm. The ships logs and chronometer being off by several days from the ship time of the incoming ship. There is just no way it would work.

Enjoy,
Steven

And then, Aesiron replied:

So there. I win! :stuck_out_tongue:

Perhaps it won’t. It is after all part of a story arc.
Then again, it only has to keep them from learning that Enterprise knows where the weapon is until Archer and Co. get there.
They can think the humans got there spouse’s phone numbers with the Regulan worms and are rogering them at the very moment for all it matters.

Actually, they don’t have to muck with the ship’s chronometer. The Enterprise crew were making it look like the Xindi humanoids had been knocked unconscious by some ship malfunction – they could have been knocked out for several days.

Don’t be too worried about that, once they figure out what’s going on, it will be too late and Enterprise will be long gone.

I keep imagining the Enterprise cruising through space with sheep scattered throughout. Whoooosh … baa baa baaaaa {thunk, thwoop} … baa baa baaaaa {thunk, thwoop} … baa baa baaaaa {thunk, thwoop} … caw caw c-{thunk, thwoop}
Trip, “Hey, how’d that buzzard get in here? Chief, get rid of it.”
Chief, “I’m not sticking my crew’s-neck in there!”
Trip, “Don’t get angora Chief. Trip to bridge.”
Archer, “What is it? I’m watching Polo.”
Trip, “Capt’n, the engines are overheatin!”
Archer, “Don’t sweater it. We’d better pullover.”

So they just realize they’ve been unconscious for a few days - but not dehydrated and without undue feelings of hunger? So they figure out it’s Enterprise, so what? They just call Azaati Prime and increase their defense perimeter by a magnitude or two. And send sips in normal space between the test area and Azaati Prime to look for Enterprise. But that assumes they really figure this insidious Bergrama deception out. Anyway, even if they encounter Enterprise, they apparently have standing orders NOT TO DESTROY THE COITAL SHIP!

I am afraid to ask, but please define “coital ship”.

Be afraid not. Be a tied rope, worn at the edge.

I just got tired of typing F!@#$%^&*ing (or its variants) because I have to stop typing, hold down the shift key, type punctuation, and return to typing normally.

I use it because this is a family thread, after all.

Why? What did you … think I meant?

When a Mommy Spaceship and a Daddy Spaceship love each other very much, sometimes theres enough love it makes a whole 'nother spaceship!
