Entertaining Two Hour Rape

I feel the same way about the last generation of humanity. I mean, it was only last week when I heard of my parents inviting people to dinner and generally being nice and cordial with one another. Then I heard about this and I am not thoroughly outraged and somewhat fearful of adults, tbh.

In fact, I’m fairly confident that my grandmother is racist. Seems dickishness transcends the generational barriers.

From the information in the article it’s certainly possible that it wasn’t obvious to bystanders that it was rape. We have no idea if she struggled or said “no” or made any indication that it wasn’t consensual. She was found passed out drunk eventually, but I don’t know if that would be obvious hours earlier from across a courtyard in the dark.

I see your 4 rapists…and I raise you three more.

(Or six more depending on if you read the links inside the story…)

Ha. What a crock of shit. Better at… what, exactly? War? Poverty? Violent crime? OK - I’ll give you those. But I can think of a dozen other countries off the top of my head that I’d rather live in than the USA.

If you think American crime rates are “rock-bottom” as compared to other industrialized nations, then you’re out of your fucking mind.

Which didn’t really happen in Genovese’s case. Most people only hear the media hype version that 38 people basically stood around and watched/listened to her get raped and killed, when that’s just so far from the truth it’s astounding. Only a few people saw or heard anything very troubling, the police were in fact called, but the media totally distorted the facts of the case.

Yes, I hear Sweden where they sterilized much of their impoverished potential criminals about thirty to fourty years ago is doing quite well.

Wow. That was an excellent riposte. You have clearly demonstrated that the USA is the Greatest Place Evah!11!!!

I bow to your superior rhetorical skills.

Well thanks for the compliment, I unfortunately cannot accept as it was predicated upon a criminally poor reading comprehension as it extrapolated what wasn’t actually said.

I merely suggested that post-eugenic Sweden might be a nice alternative.

Hmmm… seems that when I directly quote someone’s own words that it’s a bit hard to not deal with what was actually said.

Back to your previous response to me - if you’re going to start bringing up shit that happened 40 years ago (and I’m not Swedish and am not familiar with their sterilization practices at that time, as I would wager 99% of this board is equally ignorant of) do you really need to be reminded what was going on in the America in the 60’s?

ETA: I just saw your edit. Are you being sarcastic or serious?

A high school girl, servicing multiple men, in front of an audience, in public, including penetration with a “foreign object”…that doesn’t sound like any pleasant, consensual act. What part of that is not obviously a rape?

I am just saying that eugenics has made Sweden a very nice place to live. If you can’t take things as they are spoken directly without inventing all kinds of subtext to suit your own particular tastes that hardly has anything to do with me.

A horrible story indeed but people can be bastards, we always have been capable of horrors, always will be. When I here people talking about younger generations not having something that previous generations had with regard to this kind of stuff I think of the below picture. WARNING: Picture is of a crowd celebrating over the burnt remains of a black man. It is one of the most striking images I’ve ever seen. The pride is some of their faces :frowning:

I see a variety of expressions on their faces.

Ah, OK. You were being serious then. You’re correct that I was (evidently) reading a subtext in your comment that wasn’t there, as I was operating under the misconception that your mention of eugenic sterilizations in Sweden was intended to be a shot at Those Godless Commies across the pond.

I disagree with your assessment, but you have my sincere apologies (no snark) for my hostility.

I still think chique’s original comment about the USA’s preeminence to be laughably ignorant.

Fuji If there is any defense of the US, it’s not that the US is better than Sweden for not doing it, it’s just that you take the good with the bad. Sometimes that the pillars of civilization that people admire had to do distasteful things to get that way. Whether it’s better or worse is a silly game to play, all nations have done some pretty dispicable things on a long enough timeline. But every country has its ups and its downs. The US may not be the pinnacle in every category but it’s a pretty nice place to live generally and is in the top ranks in most categories. I’d rather live in New York than Goteborg, the small difference in the crime rate is not enough to get me to move to to the cold.

The US might not be the objective BEST place to live but it is far from being the worst.

I largely agree with you there, mswas. I spent the first 35 years of my life in the USA, and most of it was great, so I’m certainly not hatin’ on the States. Hell, the place I live now (Ireland) has certainly seen its share of bloodshed and savagery.

But just as if I’m with a group of people here, and one of them decides to bash the USA as the world’s great font of evil, I will speak to defend my birthland, I also have to jump in when I see blatant, flag-waving idiocy on the other extreme. And the simple fact is that, by a variety of statistical measures, chique is flat-out wrong with his/her assertions of US exceptionalism.

That was never in question. That statement is totally acurate.

This however

is what Fuji is talking about. There are European and Asian countries that are easily comparible to the US when it comes to the main points that make a society “better”. Debates would come down to political thinking etc. as to which individuals prefer but no way does the US stand alone, above all other countries.

If a European came in and said such a thing they would be also rightly slapped down by Americans calling him/her arrogant etc.

Heh. Slainté Fuji. For some reason I assumed you were in Japan

Hearing things like this just makes me sick.

These thing happen since the dawn of day, it is just sad that the human race is going back to it’s “savage” roots.

I can understand, that people are not doing anything themselfs, but with modern technolgy it very simple to call the police and stay out of harms way.

Well, USA - the land of the FREE to get gang raped, robbed & murderd - God bless America.
Here in Ireland, this would be THE News topic of the year, not just a byline in some local paper.

Nope - I’m down here in County Cork. I’m not Japanese either. I’ve just always liked the name “Fuji”. It’s been my favorite alter-ego name for about 25-30 years now.

And thanks for getting my point that I was trying to get across to mswas. I think he gets it now, too, now that our misunderstanding has been cleared up.
