The SDMB sends us email telling us that so-and-so replied to our threads “entitled” such-and-such. Are they entitled to use the word “entitled” when the correct word is “titled”?

Ladybug (and her swarm of allies) and I (with my posse) recently duked it out over the proper use of “entitle” in another thread.
She agreed with you, barb – citing one or more reputable style manuals – that “entitle” should not be used when giving the name of a movie, book, etc.; I countered with the dictionary entry (see zgy’s post).
The matter seemed to boil down to this: it is entirely correct and permissible to use “entitle” to name things, though it is discouraged by some style guides for the sake of consistancy and clarity.
