Enya: Amarantine

My girlfriend is the only person I’ve ever met who is as much, if not moreso, of an Enya fan than I am.

We bought her latest CD, Amarantine, on Wednesday night after doing our last minute shopping for Thanksgiving, and listened to it on repeat while preparing food all that night and the next day.

Shay’s favorite song is the first track, Less than a pearl, while mine is The river sings (track 5) which has a wonderful didgeridoo-esque sound to it.

The rest of the cd is also tres fab, in our humble opinions.

Three of the songs are recorded (and transcribed on the cd jacket) in Loxian a language conceived by Roma Ryan.

Roma is also writting or has already written a book in Loxian, titled Water Shows The Hidden Heart, but the only place I’ve found it to be mentioned by name is on the cd jacket.

I loooooooove new Enya cds!!! It seems like an eternity between their releases, and they’re such fun to savor once I get my grubby little paws on them.

I did not realize she had a new album out. I must add it to my (ever expanding) shopping list.

Enya is one of the few artists whose work I buy without hearing it first.

I don’t know if I can go another album with Enya … question - is it the exact same structure that she’s followed for the last three albums? i.e. title track - upbeat track - melodic vocal single - misc (varies) - piano instrumental, etc.

I own and love Watermark, which I think is just a phenomenal album. Nothing else I’ve heard from her comes close, IMHO.

I’ve certainly met folks who say, “If you’ve heard one Enya album, you’ve heard them all.”

More for me then, I say.

There are no instrumentals on Amarantine, but aside from that it is obviously an Enya album.

I liked Watermark, the Celts, and various individual songs from other albums like Carribean Blue or Anywhere Is, but really she’s kind of a one-trick pony. Nothing really radically impressive has come out of her camp since her debut.
