We were over here having a friendly discussion about Carbs!, and our annoyance at people who find nothing more useful to talk about when, spotting his opportunity to compensate for his small willy, Epimetheus slithers in to offer his own self-congratulatory non sequiturs. And what better way to praise oneself than to simultaneously lower others in the pecking order? Since he seems intent on discussing this, he gets his own thread.
Listen, you execrable heap of sciolism, what proof does one need to demonstrate you are a drooling cretin? Very well, since you seem to need this, I’ll oblige. Here are some sites for the simple statements I made that require ‘proof’:
Nice job of combining logical fallacies, by the way. Poisoning the well with an ad hominem – genius. I could have bet that within your next two posts, you would attempt to use the thought that I might be overweight as an argument. It’s not germane to this discussion, and it’s a rank amateur ploy. I won’t address the accusation, as it would just serve to reinforce the notion that only thin people can discuss die an excercise (which wasn’t the topic before you and Airman joined in.) Those familiar with me know if I’m fit or fat.
And now I’m going to do you a favor. What you really want to do is pronounce your admirable level of fitness and the extreme self discipline that not only got you there, but separates you from the weak and the lazy. Please, everyone, note that Epimetheus has granted us a venue [his link, BTW] to provide feedback. I know I did!
Did you notice the part that I discussed physical deformities, abnormalities and illnesses?
You gave a blanket statement about exercise not working for some, not that under certain conditions the body does not operate properly and thus exercise has minimal, harmful or negative effects. Or that certain people CAN’T exercise. There is a big difference between that and a dieter that tries exercise and doesn’t follow it properly.
Since this board is about fighting ignorance I chose to pre-emptively strike and hit it before it even came up. All the stories about how dieters failed or some such because exercise doesn’t work for them. You are the one that started the ad hominems by suggesting that I was some troll.
Yes, I got a bit snarky as usual. I feel good and all today but I had not but 20 mins before that got my first speeding ticket. 10 years of damn driving and I made the fool mistake of speeding. Certianly not an excuse, but your childish troll acusations pissed me off.
Real mature. You are such a great person there Waverly, I mean, it is very 7th grade to grade a person a 1 out of spite. What are you, like 10?
So, what evidence do you have again? Other than this post being nothing more than a cleverly hidden pot shot, I would say somebody is CLEARLY suffering from an inferiority complex, and it doesn’t happen to be me.
Epimetheus, If you look up, you will see that I included two quotes from you. In between these posts, I had restated (and here it is for the 3rd time) that exercise was nearly always called for, but there are people for whom it doesn’t work or it not enough. Seems reasonable enough, but what I got was a face full of bile, a statement of disbelief, and a rather silly attack on my hypothetical physical condition.
How is “exercise not working for some” a blanket statement? It is a clause to prevent against exactly that. And once again, the thread that you were trodding on had nothing to do with exercise or weight.
Which brings us to my assumptions about your motives. I admit that this is an assumption, but I think it is well founded. You were looking for an opportunity to flog your own exercise habits and fire a shot across the bow of those who you label as lazy. Pretty crude. A quick look at your profile provided further evidence of my suspicion. However, although you yourself provide the link, if you want it removed I will ask a moderator.
Well, it was an error on my part. I should have stated that Exercise and a controled diet will work for everybody. (aside from the aformentioned exceptions) Since I didn’t state this properly I suppose you are fully in the right for calling me on it. I agree, the attack was silly, and the bile was unnecessary.
I wasn’t looking for an excuse to show off like you suggest, nor compensate for a small willy. You may construe them as such, but my intent was never that, despite your own desire to see it so. My motive, as corny as it sounds, was simply to fight what I percieved as ignorance. And perhaps prevent somebody from convincing themselves that because they have exercised for months they have not lost weight, that they must be one of these “special” people that exercise “doesn’t work” on.
If you aren’t saying this (which is becomes more apparent now that you aren’t), then I have no beef. My post was, on my part alone, a mistake due to lack of communications and perhaps even a temporary (though this can be argued I suppose) lack of reading comprehension(aka skimming the post, letting my own bias color what I think it says). Probably the latter.
I accept your apology. I wouldn’t recommend anyone give up on exercise without talking to a doctor, BTW. For my part, I apologize for mocking your linked page.
[sub]Now that that is settled, I’ll let you in on a secret: After all these years I can run a sub 60sec quarter mile.[/sub]
If a mod wants to pull the curtain on this one, that’s fine by me.
Thats pretty damn good. I have problems with running, speed wise. I can run more than two miles and I think I can aerobically handle more, but I damaged my knee in bootcamp when I joined the Marines, so it flares up after so much use. I try not to let it control my exercise though. Maybe someday I can get numbers like that.
