…says this pissed observer, who saw them get pounded by the Spurs, who I guess finally had to get a win at Stamford Bridge for the first time in 28 years:p
The Blues coulda leapfrogged over Kane and Co. with a victory for the final spot for European play next year, but noooooooooo they had to crap right out with an uninspired game, giving up three unanswered goals.
I don’t think Conte well be sleeping well for the next while.
Also saw that amazing little punk from Barca - Messi - pulling some late-game magic against Sevilla today. Barca were down 2-0 when el Punko came off the bench, and in the 88th minute, his corner assists Saurez’s tying goal, and then less than a minute later, well, let Phil and the awesome Ray take it away.
If I ever have a son, may my SO at the time be copacetic with the idea of making el Punko my kid’s godfather. (that’s if it’s ok with Lionel)
Hopefully he’ll be the Argentine president within two years after he retires, at the age of 43.
In the first half, Chelsea should have been up 3-0. The Chelsea in the second half were much less confident; how much of that is due to their keeper being rooted to the ground on Spurs’ first goal you have to decide for yourself…
#FoxesNeverQuit still in the hunt for Europe, though getting past Burnley isn’t going to be easy.
Squiffy. Bally Jerry, pranged his kite right in the how’s-your-father; hairy blighter, dicky-birded, feathered back on his sammy, took a waspy, flipped over on his Betty Harpers and caught his can in the Bertie.
This means I don’t quite follow you.
Juve striker Paulo Dybala played the worst game I’ve seen him play this season - missed a golden opportunity early on to tie it up, got a dumb yellow, whacked Ramos in the face (which the ref didn’t see and instead gave a yellow to SR after he fell to the pitch), and then a high boot into Carvajal’s chest (which gave Dybala a red, and since he already had a yellow, I don’t know if that’s, like, the first time anyone technically got three yellows, in total, in a game.)
Buffon made some great saves, as did Navas, especially a quick reflex save from a Higuain point blank shot.
Was hoping for at least a closer scoreline.
Always cool hearing the “CHAAAWWWPYAAAAAWWWNNS” thingie.
Liverpool dominates Man City. I didn’t see some of the second half (damn work!) so I’m hoping the Sarah injury isn’t serious and was just precautionary.
And a hearty Fuck You to the thugs that attacked the Man City team coach.
Sweet goal by Aaron Ramsay yesterday in the romp over CSKA. Arsenal is still going to need some real steel later on against the likes of Leipzig and Atletico.
Wow that was quite the Manchester derby.
I thought City would’ve taken the reins at 2-0, but the United comeback, and win, at the Etihad, no less, (god I hate the sound of that name, saying it, for some reason), was quite the feat. According to reuters, even if City beat Tottenham next Saturday, it’s not guaranteed they’ve clinched the title. (I think Man U also has to lose to West Brom or something the next day.)
Very artful turn (swivel?)for one of Man U’s goals, by Gundogan.
Took in another Barca game today as Messi potted a hattrick against the world-reknowned “cucumber growers” of Leganes. Him and (Teddy:p) Salah are tied right now at 29 for the European Golden Shoe. After a slow start, Ronaldo is closing in quickly, which I hope will make for an interesting race. (Fuck - sad to think ten years from now I’ll be moping about the good ole days when these two were going at it, and the strong likelihood that such a high calibre duel of this magnitude will doubtfully present itself for, well, freakin ages.)
Currently watching PVR of Wellbeck blasting one past the Southampton keeper to come from behind to 2-1.
The points difference between City and United is now 13, with each team having six games to go. That means, that, if both teams win next weekend, City won’t have clinched because United would still be able to make up 15 points in five games, theoretically. As was mentioned frequently in the course of the game Saturday, City will eventually win the League; it’s just a matter of when.
But it WAS good to see United manage a fight-back. I like games that are close and interesting. Had Sterling buried any of the three chances he had in the first half for the third goal, I think it would have been game-over then and there.
As always, the relegation fight is becoming the focus of attention. Still way too many teams with the possibility of going out. Squeaky bum time for quite a few of them!
Indeed - goes without saying. I called it last January, when their lead already looked insurmountable, and now I’m seeing headlines along the lines of “Greatest EPL Side Ever?” Not sure if I’d go that far, especially considering it’s a pretty subjective call, but even by December there were some pundits saying MC’s already clinched it.
Funny - I thought Kompany was with MC for way more than ten years - time’s playing tricks on me. (same with Yaya Toure)
It was the first time the two managerial giants met in the EPL - whatever bitterness there might have been between them sure wasn’t apparent as they seemed to set a record for longest post-game handshake/hug.
:smack: Ack - next time I should maybe check the dates on articles.
Too bad Arlo Smth couldn’t commentate every game I saw. Champion’s good too, except when he occasionally chirps some out-of-left-field potshot at co-caller Jim Beglin. (Seemingly more snide and one-up-manish than collegial, with Beglin rolling with it, albeit sorta haltingly, you can tell.)
Man City 1-Liverpool 0 as the first half comes to a close. Thankfully, that second Man City goal was disallowed. I’m still sweating bullets as Liverpool look awful in the first half.
