English Premier League 2017-18

Today the first game of the season happened. Sadly, my Leicester City FC Foxes went down away to the Arsenal 3 - 4, after having led the game late 3 - 2. Some really nice goals scored today. I hope that Giroud scoring late for the Gunners is not going to be a theme again this season.

First question of the season: Is anyone predicting that the Top 6 will be broken into by someone else this season???

I want to know what the hell is going on with this Coutinho drama, I’m really getting tired of this. I hope Liverpool starts off strong tomorrow, they’ve got so many injuries right now

It’s difficult to make predictions before the closing of the transfer window, but unless something happens at Spurs, I think they will end up outside the top 5, and fight with Everton for 6th spot.

The bookies reckon the top 6 will be:

  1. Man City
  2. Chelsea
  3. Man United
  4. Spurs
  5. Arsenal
  6. Liverpool

Cracking start to the season as I type this: Yesterday’s 4-3 game gets followed by the first game today: Watford 3 - 3 Liverpool , with the theme of late scores continuing today (Watford tie the game in stoppage time). If this is the theme of the season, I’m all for it!

The Burnley victory at Chelsea is likely a season changing result.

I predict that this is a relegation saving result for Burnley. What other relegation candidate will pick up 3 points at Stamford Bridge?

And, in a tight race for the title, it will be a fatal result for Chelsea. And they will likely lose Cahill for 3 matches as well.

In fact, unless Chelsea opens the wallet soon, they won’t qualify for the CL.

Huddersfield Town are already top of the league - will anyone be able to catch them?

Pressing the Liverpool panic button after the first week. Playing awful and then choking away a win in stoppage time plus having to deal with this Coutinho garbage. It’s a good thing that game was played at 630 in the AM or I would have started drinking immediately.

I tuned in this morning to see Liverpool up 3-2 with just a few minutes remaining, and Watford not doing too much to scare the goal. I immediately paid close attention because that’s exactly the time the 'Pool love to give up two points. I was not disappointed.

I loved Fabregas’ look of shock at getting a second yellow for his dive in with studs up. It wasn’t like the referee hadn’t already served notice that he doesn’t approve of leaving the ground in two-footed challenges. When you are on a warning, you don’t do that, if you have any real brains. And, yet, Chelsea still almost pulled it out.

What in the world were they doing down in Southampton? 0 - 0 this weekend is like not even showing up for the game.

And we see that nothing changes in football. First game of the season for his new club, and JonJo Shelvey manages to get sent off for stamping on an ankle. Right in front of the referee. The result is a 2-0 win for Spurs.

Manchester United, however, look a much improved side, though how much of that is due to the fact that the Hammers look pretty poor is not clear.

Saints are my club but if they struggle to score again as badly as they did last season, they’re gonna be tough to love.

Good on you, Huddersfield.

They definitely were NOT over-awed by their return after 35 years. Good to see them step up that game. Even if they don’t stay up, their fans will always recall that game. I bet by year’s end, the traveling support will end up having been 50,000! :stuck_out_tongue:

Holy cow! United look unreal. Quite the change!

Foxes won their home opener. The question left in everyone’s mind is: will Mahrez continue to produce once his proposed transfer to AS Roma is denied for good?

Chicharito is at it again, poaching his way to lots of goals…

I’m Stoked.

COYS!

Still top of the league! Fun fact: Patrick Stewart is a Huddersfield supporter. “Champions League. Make it so”.

To the OP’s question about the top 6, probably not but you never know. Always great to see one of the little clubs rise up, as long as it’s not at your team’s expense!

Where are our thread regulars?

What a great fk by Marcos Alonso. What a great result if Chelsea can take even one point away from this match. La Liga needs to learn that more strong teams make for much more exciting and compelling matches.

First time I’ve seen a sliding tackle take out two men. Between the Harry Kane diving and the dirty play, I’m losing respect for Tottenham.

Great freaking game. Tottenham must be worried that they couldn’t score against the weakened Chelsea defense.

It is time for Barcelona to shut up. They’re not getting Coutinho this late in the transfer window.
