I’ve become occasionally irritated in the past by some of Equipoise’s apparent condescension in movie threads, but i also figure that many people often seem that way when talking about things that they spend a lot of time on. They sometimes give the impression that the rest of us are somehow inferior for not taking as great an interest in their obsessions as they do. I’m sure i’ve come across that way sometimes on certain topics.
This is exactly what inspired the Pitting. It started, however, with her bemoaning the lack of technical awards airing on the Oscars. Completely misunderstanding that, being on TV, it needs eyeballs.
No, that’s not the reference. It’s undoubtedly from one of the movie references to the racehorse Equipoise in either Guys and Dolls or Stalag 17.

In further explanation, since I think I mentioned this elsewhere when Ambivalid’s name was brought up: A year or two back, Google stopped having regular links in their search results, but rather posting these Google things that, after clicking, turn into links. It’s some sort of tracking thing. It lets them see how many times a given link gets clicked. But it saves other people a lot of effort if you click the link (open it in a new tab or window if you prefer) and copy the ultimate URL rather than the stand-in Google link thingie.

twickster seems to think the movies that are shoveled at her at her local cineplex are the only movies that exist. That is lazy thinking, and she is wrong. Equipose was pointing out that um duh yeah, there are plenty of other movies out there.
