Yeah, I can see it happening, it just doesn’t look quite like that here.
But Wanda didn’t just stand there serenely when she was decrypting normal troops. She was reveling in it, joyous. A flight of archons under her control making fireworks over the city as a crowning achievement in front of Stanley? She would have been grinning at the very least, most likely more.
Yes. But were the dragons scared? Or angry? Or what? When allowed to do what they wanted to do, they rose up and went after the archons. Attacking enemies?
Wanda set it up to rub Stanley’s nose in the fact that she’s got an Arkentool now, and while Stanley may be the Overlord, she’s probably got more power and control (and smarts, of course) than he does now.
That’s why she was observing Stanley’s reaction, and that’s why Stanley overreacted.
She’s playing head-games with him, and that’s totally something Wanda does.
Wanda was probably hoping that Stanley would begin to view her as an equal, now that she was an Arkentool wielder. And she had the pyrotechnics display prepared as a sign of her “respect” for him as an Arkentool wielder. And to show off.
You were right, the archons are Wanda’s. 2 arkentools, a fleet of dwagons, a huge army composed of stuff from all over the world… Yeah this is going to be interesting. They can take over the world.
If they do take over the world, it’ll be pretty darned uninteresting. At this point, it’s kind of hard to see how they could fail. Remember, those archons were, by themselves, enough to take over Gobwin Knob, and they’ve got them, plus Stanley’s dwagons, plus all of those ground troops, all under the same banner, and all with no upkeep, plus huge sums of wealth if it turns out they ever do need to pay for anything.
It seems unlikely that Charlie was committing all his forces to the battle for Gobwin Knob, and we have no idea what the fourth Arkentool is or who has it. Things could be interesting for a while.
I think we’re going to see a little bit of it, then something will happen. Parson doesn’t want to kill people, Wanda is starting to look like she belongs in the giggling academy, Stanley is about to be handed the keys to more power than he’s ever known. Something is going to crack.
Something I noticed. We don’t see a lot of skullduggery. If there world is purely turn based warfare, does that mean there’s no room for assassins, or thieves, or other stuff like that? We haven’t seen any yet, and this would be the perfect time for it.
So here Stanley’s selection criteria for new warlords reasserts himself. When left to his own devices, he picks the best looking - and who’s better looking than Prince Handsome? Wanda’s warning got him to do something different once - when his back was to the wall. Now the pressure’s off he’s reverting to type.
I think Parson is tired of the game, and wants out. There’s nothing in it for him anymore. He beat the unbeatable scenario. What’s he going to do after that? Any idiot can win with the forces they have now. He hates Stanley, is a bit afraid of Wanda, doesn’t know what to think about Ansom, and knows Sizemore doesn’t like him. Plus, he hates himself for killing all those people, and isn’t sure if he did it or he was being controlled. He’s not a happy person.
And it looks like he’s completely past the profanity filter now, too. The first time, it might have just been extreme emotion coming through, but there’s not all that much strong emotion in “beats the shit out of a coconut”.
