radio reports the store is now empty of animals. besides the rock python there were other illegal animals.
They need evidence that the snake did or did not attack the kids. I’m sure such a snake was not only euthanized but also had a necropsy performed.
Of course it was a potential danger. But it was a danger to one kid, not two. People are questioning its atypical behavior in killing two kids and not eating either, not the fact that it might kill and eat a child of that size.
Rock pythons will become the new Pit Bulls.

The latest I’ve seen is that the ventilation fan in the ceiling of the enclosure had been removed and that is how the snake got out. Criminal investigation is still proceeding.
I’m seeing reports by UK “news sources”, fox news, huffington post and any number of blogs that this is now a murder investigation but despite several minutes of searching I’ve been unable to find a Canadian source for this rumour.
Has anyone seen a reliable source for this update?

This happened a few hours away from me and there is not a lot of coverage on the local news lately. Last I heard was they destroyed some of the other reptiles he had onsite, some of which were illegal.

Sometimes the “White American Kidnapped Girl” story is actually compelling, despite the fact that it’s about a white American girl.
The snake story would be more compelling if they’d release, you know, actual information.

Balderdash, Leaffan, if your Canadian detectives and coroners are as “competent” (read as “air quotes”) as you allege, they would not be focusing attention on the snake in question. That snake is merely a red herring (figuratively speaking, of course—a real herring, no matter what color it was, is not capable of inflicting fatal wounds of a constrictive nature).
American detectives and coroners, who truly are competent (notice, no air quotes), would be actively searching for the actual weapon (yes, I said weapon) used in this double homicide—the “smoking gun!” (real quote marks).
More precisely, in this case, they are looking for the “smoking snake”—a very large rubber snake. The reptile-store man is obviously a conniving, budding serial killer who kills his victims by wrapping a large rubber snake around them, then pulling the ends tight. Then, he fingers (non-sexually) the real snake, making it the pigeon (figuratively speaking). It’s a dastardly and devious modus operandi. Frankly, I’m surprised a Canadian criminal could come up with something that brilliant.
