I get home after work, it´s late and there´s only the leftovers of last nights tuna and onions omelette on the fridge, so what is a hungry, inventive, reckless and hungry (did I say hungry) man to do?, well put it between two slices of bread with some chicken ham flavored mayonnaisse, cold, straight out of the fridge, that´s what. After all, everything is better in between two slices of bread.
Holy cow, this actually tastes great! A triumph of bachellor´s cuisine. Do you have any other improvised recipes for those days you get back home hungry and tired?, hopefully ones that turned out OK please.
Now if you´d excuse me I have to finish the sandwiches before my GF comes back home or I won´t hear the end of it for weeks.
This disturbs me more than anything else if I am reading it correctly. Where do you get mayonaisse in that… ummm… unique flavor? What brand makes such a thing? And what do you most often use it for?
I got home from the gym, and there were some cooked (pork) sausages in the fridge (we get leftovers from the pub my wife works at, and it was a BBQ on monday). So I’m doing the whole low carb diet thing, but I am starving.
so …
Slice up some sausage (not too much, but the fat has been cooked out of them). Toss in a frypan with some chopped mushrooms, diced pepper, corn kernels and (the thing that made it work) a blob of Branstons Sweet Thai Chilli relish. Heat through (till the peppers and mushrooms are soft).
Serve on to a bed of salad leaves, spring onions and carrot strips (I peel a carrot, then strip it using the peeler). Colourful, delicious, and not too many calories.
My daughter looked at it and informed me that it looked good. She had stirfried some sausage with rice and spices earlier, but mine looked better.
Of course, I would do much the same with diced chicken, add in some mangetout and baby corn.
Cuppa chicken broth (canned).
1/2 cuppa rice.
Anything else in fridge that won’t disolve in water.
Bring to boil. Stir.
Simmer 20 minutes.
Top with a pat of butter.
Eat directly from pot.
Drain kidney beans and rinse in hot tap water.
Open bag of salad. Pile salad on plate.
Top salad with kidney beans, one tomato (cut in wedges), some salsa, shredded Mexican cheese from bag, and more salsa.
It was OK. Would have been better with a little ground beef, some green onion and some avocado or guacamole, but that would have required planning. And frankly, I think I put so much cheese on top as to undo any benefits from the pile of salad greens.
You know what, I bet I have green onion in my fridge, but didn’t think about it at the time. Oh, well.
