Euro 2020 (in 2021)

Oh my God. Terrible incident, Denmark’s Eriksen suddenly collapsed unforced and is now reanimated on the field. Doesn’t look good. All the players and spectators from both sides are in shock.

This game might be called off here. Or if it continues will be very very subdued. Hoping he’ll be okay.

I cannot imagine this game to be continued.

It does not look good.

My goodness. Just awful and I hope he pulls through.

Match suspended

Are they going to resume it today?

Haven’t heard about plans to resume, but I can’t imagine it being today.

No confirmation from UEFA yet but you’d imagine it would be called off. Not sure if that means postponing the remainder of the game, replaying it, or finishing the game with the score at 0-0.

I’ve seen that it was called off in multiple places. Maybe it’s not official, but they’re not finishing today.

Some pictures of him awake while on a stretcher, and getting oxygen, so that’s good.

Even if UEFA insisted on the game to be continued, I can’t imagine that any player of both sides would comply.

Match has been “abandoned”

What a terrible thing to happen. I hope he pulls through, it looked like he was striken by lightning out of the blue. Belgian news report he suffered a cardiac arrest but was conscious again on the ambulance but everything now is highly preliminary. I wish him and his family the best.

UEFA statement:

Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET.

The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised.

Do they replay the entire match? Or just pick it up in the second half and Denmark has to make a substitution?

The Danish association DBU has confirmed that Eriksen is conscious and examined in hospital.

(according to Kicker)

I reckon they will play the remainder of the game in the next couple of days.

That’s what I also expect. If Eriksen doesn’t survive though, all bets are off.

I just heard on German ZDF that the players themselves have decided to resume the match. NOT the UEFA. I’m very surprised by that decision, but I respect the players for it.

ETA: UEFA declares: the game will be resumed at 8:30 PM local time.

And now it’s on again. Will be a strange second half. But the good thing is that the continuation is a good sign for Eriksen’s health. If it were more critical, the players wouldn’t have decided to return to the pitch. According to a source from the Danish team, their players had contact over Facetime with Eriksen, who motivated them to play the game.
