How many American women move to rural China to marry backwards ultra-‘traditional’ sexist Chinese peasant farmers? Probably a lot closer to zero.

I never said those women would be American; the foreign women in question are usually Korean, Laotian, Vietnamese, Uzbek, that sort of thing.

It is very likely that such a marriage would be traditional in that the man would definitely be the boss. He would have far more control over the course of the marriage in any event, because the foreign wife would have to acculturate and would likely be (and feel) quite isolated.

As I said, I was reporting anecdotal evidence; but after a certain point/number of anecdotes, it becomes fairly compelling. I doubt that female infanticde in China is on a par with alligators in the sewers and exploding microwaved poodles.

Please, let’s not do this SD message board thing of saying that something couldn’t possibly be true because you can’t citecitecitecitecite it. I don’t know if what I speculated is true or not. I offered a possible explanation for a phenomenon for which no one else offered a definitive explanation, either.

Europeans and Chinese have been interbreeding and intermingling for centuries. The premise that babies born to such unions are inherently less viable is silly and baseless.

I’m a sinologist(amateur), speak fluent Mandarin, lived in Mainland China for nearly 20 years, lived in the Chinese countryside for 3 years in the 1980s, my wife still holds a PRC passport and my kids were born there.

Female infanticide absolutely happens in China. No one is saying otherwise. However, you have made several claims that are factually incorrect, and I’ve conveniently provided cites that you’re free to read and maybe learn something from.

It’s strange to me, I am all for clamping down on the WAGs but it seems like 90+% of all GQ threads start out with unsubstantiated WAGs before anyone bothers to even attempt a factual answer, it’s very inconsistent…or rather, it’s consistently bad.
