The hammer (DDG) hit’s the nail (his statement) on the top of the head.
And I just wanna point out to Jersey Diamond that I was in high school when The Late Great Planet Earth came out, and we were all just as firmly convinced that the Common Market heralded the End Times as you are now convinced that the EU heralds them. And that was in 1970. I notice how the End Times haven’t happened yet, unless I didn’t get the memo…
Hang on, hang on, y’all are forgetting that line from Isaiah 2:4:
“They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning-hooks, and their diverse currencies into the euro. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn evolution any more.”
And in the New Testament, we have John 3:16, “… that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting euro.”
And, of course, Joseph’s brothers sold him to slavery in Egypt for 30 euros, which is coincidentally the same price that Judas accepted for selling Jesus, many many centuries later.
Now, on dinosaurs, I do have to say that there are some translations that are not quite accurate. If you go back to the original English version, however, you find:
Isaiah 11:6, for instance: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the lion shall lie down with the steogosaur.”
And in the New Testament, we have Matthew 7:6, “Do not cast your pearls before tricerotops.”
And Matthew 22:21, “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto Darwin the things which are Darwin’s.”
And don’t forget the 23rd Psalm: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the tyrannosaur, I shall fear no evil.”
Lots of biblical references, see, if you just know where to look.
You see, if these existed, that would convince me that all of these paranoid delusions were accurately interpreted.
It seems to that the fundamentalists go wrong when they try to hold God down to a timetable. All this hugger-mugger about the return of Israel and the euro heralding the imminent Rapture is a)blasphemous, because humans are imposing their will on God; b)completely misunderstands the nature of prophecy, which is NOT fortune telling or reading the future, but laying down God’s commandments to His people; and c)totally contrary to the words of Jesus, who said no man knows the day nor the hour of the coming of the Son of Man.
All of these excellent points. Some Fundies would do well to push their heads up to their computer screens and attempt osmosis, to gather this data (because traditional book learning didn’t work).

1.) The “antichrist” is not in Revelation. That term appears only a few times in the epistles of John and, and those references, in context, define “antichrist” as anyone who rejects Christ. It has nothing to do with the “beast” of Revelation.
2.)Revelation is not supposed to be a prediction of the future anyway. The “Beast” was the emperor of Rome. Here is a recent thread on this topic.
Aw, crap, I forgot to post JD’s Quote. I was responding to this:
Excellent footwork, C K, now what about that reference to “The one called Hillary, who will establish one village…” and that other verse which predicts “…the children shall read of a sorcerer called Potter, and they shall be corrupted, and they shall become witches…”
Those are in the secret Dead Sea Scrolls; the same ones that predict the coming of the 17 Angels.
Hey guys, the EU is adding 10 more countries:
http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe/12/14/eu.summit/index.html
Now we can think of new numbers which can be misinterpereted
The world can’t end until Turkey is added until the EU. That’ll probably take until about the same time when the sun is a lump of coal the size of your fist.
Well, see, what you’re missing is that the whole thing is masterminded by Satan, who has all the nations of the world in his thrall.
Yes, that’s right–the Devil makes them do it.
seriously, that’s the rationale
SoulFrost: That was a fascinating post. The description of Leviathan reminded me of the old Norse legend of the Midgard Serpent.
Jersey Diamond: The description of behemoth could as easily be a description of a hippopotamus, a rhinoceros, or an elephant. They’re all large mammals that can be quite fierce. And the leviathan could equally be a crocodile; I understand the Nile crocodiles are quite impressive in size.
Hey thanks you guys, this is great stuff. Just what I’m looking for. I figure the only way I can reason with my friends if to use the Bible to debunk itself.
C K Dexter Haven I thought you were serious there for a minute.
I don’t think it’s physically possible to “reason” with a Christian Fundamentalist who thinks that the European Union is the tool of Satan.
Don’t make yourself crazy, 'kay?
Then again, the whole leviathan / behemoth thing could be just a metaphor, and not represent descriptions of any actual beast at all.
Things that have been claimed to be the Mark of the Beast during my lifetime:[ul][li]Social Security numbers[/li][li]Bar codes[/li][li]Mondex[/li][li]Locator chip implants[/li]… and now, apparently:
[li]the Euro[/ul][/li]I wish the End Times doomsayers would make up their minds.
You mean the EU isn’t the work of Satan?
I guess you’re right. Hell would have a better beuracracy.
You know, a savy marketing company should come up with a tag or something that says “666” and on the back says “mark of the beast”.
I bet their would be money in it! After all the “pet rock” guy made money…
