Ever been caught towing a trailer ?

Hello i was pulled over by police for towing a trailer, they said the weight of my vehice and trailer exceeded the MAM of my 4x4 and trailer , they could not however find the MAM of the trailer or the 4x4 and never took me to a weighbridge to prove it was overweight. It held 100 gallons of water but was empty at the time they have noted this . I have been instructed to attend court about this. They are saying because it was a braked trailer it must be over 750kg but i have seen trailers under 750kg braked. Has anyone ever been through this and did they just plead guilty ?

What i meant was they said the trailer and 4x4 exceeded 3.5 tons but they never took me to a weighbridge or found the MAM on vehicle or trailer

What is MAM? Max allowable something I guess.

3.5 tons? That’s really not much at all. Where they saying it was over a weight limit for a bridge you crossed? Or that the your vehicle was not properly equipped?

My 1/2 dodge pick up is rated to tow 6 tons.

Seems to be a UK thing. Maximum authorized mass.

If you know what kind of car and trailer you have the weight (err, mass since this is in kg) should all be readily found on the internet and it could probably be settled in a few minutes.
