I remember this one time in the army when we were practising different ways to scale high walls. One method was to use a pole or a log to push one squad member up the wall. The soldier would hold on to the pole and walk up the wall while the rest of us pushed from below. After the second soldier is up on the wall, they would then use a rope to pull up the rest of the squad. I asked the drill instructor if it wouldn’t be faster if we skipped the rope part and just use the pole method to get the entire squad over the wall. The instructor didn’t respond and just looked at me like I was the dumbest person he’d ever met. In my defence, we had run combat drills the entire previous night and I hadn’t slept in like 30 hours.
