I haven’t seen any in the St Pete area but I used to buy roses for Marcie once a week when we lived in the Miami area. They didn’t last more than 3-4 days but the price was right.
Lots of them here in northern Italy. Funny you should bring it up today because it’s traditional here to give mimosa to the women in your life on international Women’s day. So today they are all selling mimosa and I think this is the one day of the year they are actually selling lots because the guys are worried mum, sister and GF are going to kill them if they don’t turn up with the mimosa. Normally they sell roses. I’ve never bought any and never seen anyone buy them. Like the OP I wonder how on earth it can possibly be worth their while.
I don’t see a lot of flower sellers around here, although I know where one or two set up. It’s not a route I take often though. The place I’m thinking of is a bit safer though - there’s a wide shoulder where you can pull off.
We have the fruit stands though - mostly strawberries, being so close to Oxnard (although I saw one up in Santa Barbara too). They’re often the place to get the best berries too.
There’s one I don’t get though, although I doubt I’m the target market. I’ve seen two or three juice or slushie carts (I’m not sure, because I haven’t stopped) roaming on back roads. I’d guess they’re principally selling to farm workers, but when I see them there isn’t anyone in the fields. They look just like street vendors, except on the dirt shoulder of a highway (not freeway).
