Despite a certain resemblance between the two, I’ve never mistaken them. They had very different vibes. Paxton played assholes; Pullman plays dorks.
The “Ask Judge John Hodgman” column in last weekend’s New York Times Magazine was addressed to a reader who always confused Bill Paxton with Kevin Costner.
Eric Dane, surprisingly, was the one with the sextape.
Emma Stone and Jane Levy
Whoa, they could be sisters.
Christopher Lambert and Thomas Jane got me at first.
But as they senesce they look very different.
The resemblance isn’t as strong these days, but while watching The Thin Red Line back in 1998, not only did I confuse Adrian Brody with Jim Caviezel, I didn’t even realize they were two separate characters.
Chelsea Handler and Elizabeth Banks. I first noticed it when EB had a role in Modern Family.
With me, it’s Rachel McAdams and Elizabeth Banks.
Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe. While watching American Horror Story, I often couldn’t keep their separate roles/scenes straight.

I found Black Hawk Down similarly confusing when it came out because I couldn’t keep the characters straight. I haven’t seen it since, now a huge portion of the cast is famous so I think I wouldn’t have that problem now, though I might instead get distracted by over-recognizing them.
There was a time when I thought Amy Adams and Isla Fisher were the same person using 2 different stage names. They have differntiated now.
A person who does use separate stage names is Cheryl Gates McFadden. When actinging she goes by Gates, as Dr Beverly Crusher in Star Trek TNG. She is also a talented choregrapher and dancer, at least she was, when dancing or choregrapher she goes by Cheryl.
Some years back there was the group of redheaded actresses that were very similar in looks; Amy and Isla as mentioned above, plus Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain. I didn’t have too much trouble telling them apart, until I saw the trailer for Other Mommy, starring Jessica Chastain. It almost looks like she was purposely made to look like Bryce Dallas Howard
It can be confusing when I’m watching a movie or television show and there are two actors with dark hair, or blonde actresses who I confuse. Ideally they’d cast the roles with people who look completely different.
Matt Damon and whathisface… the one in Saving Private Ryan… ah no that was Matt Damon too, Bourne! ah no Matt Damon too, God dammit.
googles “Matt Damon lookalike actor”Mark Whalberg!
While I can tell them apart, there is apparently enough of a resemblance that Jesse Plemons has been referred to as “Fat Matt Damon”.

I’ve seen him referred to as Meth Damon because of his role in Breaking Bad.
I thought that Jesse Plemons’ character in Civil War was played by Matt Damon.

Or just “Fatt Damon”. If you saw the episode of Black Mirror with him (USS Calister), he really could have passed for Matt Damon.
Spy magazine once featured a ‘Separated at Birth’ pair: Chevy Chase and Jim Morrison.
I’ve never mistaken them for each other–they groomed pretty differently–but there is a resemblance:
I spent two episodes of “Alice and Steve” thinking Nicola Walker was a looking impossibly good for her age Jenny Agutter. (they were born 18 years apart).
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito could practically be twins.
More seriously, Helen Hunt and Leelee Sobieski can be remarkably hard to tell apart—especially when Sobieski was younger.

Helen Hunt always reminded me of Jodie Foster.
