Ever get obsessed with a song?

Everyday by Buddy Holly. Don’t ask me why. When I was a kid I loved the song Peggy Sue and don’t know if I ever listened to Everyday more than once or twice. Then I grew up and stopped listening to oldies almost completely.

But just over the past few months that one song has crept back in. I’ve listened to it several times, but here and there I’ll have a day where its stuck in my head for a whole afternoon.
Its happened with other songs in the past…

“Cocaine Blues”, I collected many different cover versions of that. That’s how I discovered Hank Williams III. “The Wild Side of Life” originally by Hank Thompson, collected many covers of that as well.

Dance/techno songs get stuck in my head too, like “Perfect (Exceeder)” by Princess Superstar vs Mason, “Can’t Get You Out of my Head” by Kylie Minogue, and “100%” by Angelspit.

I can listen to the guitar riff in “Struggle Within” by Metallica over and over (the part after Hetfield says “Go!”)

“Hybrid Moments” - Misfits is an honorable mention as well.

I’ve almost always got an obsession with one song or another. Listen to it every time I get in the car, put it on repeat and listen 3 times in a row, sing it to myself during the day, etc. The thing is is usually not songs that are my very favorites, just ones that are incredibly catchy to me. Currently it’s Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon. I was listening to it (on a 45 actually) when I stumbled across this thread.

When I’m re-discovering someone, it seems like I can’t get enough. So yeah, this happens to me all the time. The most recent example would be “Paralyzer” by Finger Eleven.

Looooooooooooooove it!

All the fricking time. They come and go at random, but right now for example it’s this live versionof Two Lips/Rags and Bones by Nomeansno. It’s just awesome.

I have been obsessed with “I Will Possess Your Heart,” by Death Cab for Cutie since I first heard it last spring.

The most recent one was something they played going to a break on the cricket coverage on TV 2 days ago. I thought, “Wow, what the hell is that?” And listened intently so that I could get a line of lyrics.

Turned out to be *The La’s * Feelin’. They were a small hit about 1990, I recall *There She Goes * but I am now flogging that song and the rest of the CD. All Beatlesesque twangy guitars, lovely.

I’m lately obsessed with this version of Blackbird:

Me too. I especially love the long version, when the music builds up for a good 4 minutes before the vocals start.

More recently, my obsession is “Show Me What I’m Looking For” by Carolina Liar. It kind of sounds like Christian Rock and can probably be interpreted that way. But it’s a really catchy song.

Last year, for me, was all about “Still Alive” from the game Portal.

Right now?

All I wanna do BANG BANG BANG BANG…and a click, ching, and take yah moneh…

That being Paper Planes by MIA.

…and when I hear It’s a Beautiful Day, I’m in your basement apartment in E. 16th street and it’s the summer of 1973.

Wait, …you know what I mean.

I take medication for that. I don’t know what OCD people will call it when nobody understands what a “broken record” or “tape loop” is.

i have been obsessed with this song it’s like im addicted to the song like i always want to listen to the song can anyone tell me why and how to get out of that habbit. Btw this never happened before.

Radio Clothahump is forever playing tunes in my head. Occasionally, the needle will get stuck in a track, so to speak.

Currently the two bouncing around in my skull are Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and The Lucky Oneby Alison Krauss & Union Station.

“Time of the Season” perhaps?

On a more serious note, this is something that I do regularly that drives my wife nuts. Since moving to MP3s, she hasn’t had to listen to it, but I usually have something that I’m obsessed with. Right now, I’ve gone back a few years for Green Day’s American Idiot album and the tragically underrated Wonderlick’s “This Song is a Commercial”.

Oh, man. I was thinking about starting a thread about this – nice job.

Since I saw the movie 50/50 I have been obsessed with “To Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees. It was like I had never heard the song up to that point (when in actuality, I had many times). I’m talking 10 times a day for the last two months – and not even bothered by that. Just coming out of it now.

Out of my head you fiend!!! I think it’s because he sounds like Sting in the chorus and the kick ass video.

I still get obsessed with a single song to one degree or another. However, in the last year or so I’ve become obsessed with one singer: Kesha. I’d say that a third or even half of the songs I listen to in an average day are Ke$ha songs. Yes, I do have my favorites of hers, but any Ke$ha song that comes up on my music player’s shuffle brings me excitement. I have about 120 Ke$ha songs, most of which haven’t been officially released. I’d be counting down the days until her new album comes out (supposedly in May), but so far no date has been set.

I’ve got this one running through my head right now.

The only one (of hundreds that I will think of .001 of a second after I hit “post”) is the Proclaimers’ version of My Old Friend the Blues, which I looped constantly for hours each day over a couple of weeks.

I tried to kid myself that it was purely so I could learn the strumming pattern and play it myself, but I was too lost in the song to ever pick up the guitar and actually practice.

Luckily, I found work again and haven’t had the time to get that wrapped up.
